The only right compressor for the car is the correct part number, the reason is the mounting of the compressor to the engine, although all Sanden units are the same inside they vary for each car for the reason I have stated, mounting Bose's.

I have a 1996 audi a4 quatro and have replace the climate control. all the buttons work and lights up but the ac compressor does not kick in and the fresh air door wont close. reinstalled old one, dampers...

I have a 96 cabriolet, and the AC controls are cable operated. Check your cables under the dash. there i a button for the ac, right next to the recirculate button separate from the dials. If that doesn't kick in your AC, check relays and fuses, and then low pressure switch, assuming you already know that you are full of freon.

How do i locate the failing part for ac not working

you need to try to charge the system with r-134 make sure that the r-134 has die in it. while you are at the parts store get the test kit that has glasses and a uv light. run the car for about 15 min after charging the ac system. shut off the vehicle and start searching for the leak with the glasses and the light. with all that being said i am telling you this only after you charge the ac and the compressor comes on. if the compressor does not come on after you charge the system replace the compressor, reciver dryer, and orifice tube

Squealing coming car

Could be the A/C compressor because there is a bearing that turns on the shaft even when the cooling isn't running and they do often fail.

There is a squeal sound (high pitch) coming out of

The seal on the AC compressor has probably failed and allowed all the refrigerant and lubricant to be lost. This allows the bearing to run dry and now it is failing and making noise.

1. You could have the AC repaired, the compressor repaired or replaced and the system refilled.

2. You could have a mechanic disconnect the system and possibly remove the compressor (only if this model does not use a belt that relies on the compressor being in place).

3. It is probably way too late to try to refill the AC system with R134a refrigerant as it would just run out past the failed seals.

If anyone has an AC unit that just recently stopped making cold air they should attempt to recharge the unit (if it uses R134a - check your manual or underhood stickers). I just did and saved my compressor and AC unit from further damage.
