SOURCE: No power to ignition - ? please help! 91 amigo 2.3l
If everything is turning on, and there's power... check for 12V at the alternator. it may be out now.... or a connector came loose, or wire broke.
SOURCE: replaced ignition switch, now car won't start
Dont panic, you can do this. First you must get a multimeter. Their cheap at harbor frieght 5 bucks. Then check the battery, car off, should be 12 volts. car on 13,14 volts. Possibly the ignition switch wires are touching. That of course would be a short. Also try to jump start the car, if it turns over you found your problem. If not you must start check the connections from the battery. follow the wires, negative to frame, make sure its tight, positive to starter make sure its tight to starter post. Use meter to check for power on the wires. Okay buddy good luck.
SOURCE: changed positive cable terminal, now battery dead, fuse box ticks
hazard lights left on ? check to see waht relay it is that is clicking anr read to see what it is for? hope this helps
SOURCE: Where is the Crank Sensor '99 BMW 523i E39 Auto
are you sure you need the crankshaft position sensor changed. it is at the back of the engine i believe, but.....
check for a wet ecu first... read the note on e36...
the ecu compartment is under the windshield on the passenger side on E36
you gain acess to it under the hood....
this compartment gets wet, the ecu lays on a flat surface in that
compartment.
the bottom side of the circuit board gets wet and starts corrosion.
remove the ecu, take the bottom plate off, clean the bottom of the circuit
board with alcohol and a soft tooth brush.
you should be able to see the signs of corrosion or conductive build up.
this gunk bridges solder points doing all sort s of wierd things to your
car, including false sensor readings from asc/abs controllers and other
sensors....
all the way to engine failure and worst case burnt and shorted wiring
harness.
I'm on my 3rd ecu, took me and the repair boys a few years to figure this
one out.
BTW: i would get that ecu mounted above that flat surface, use some sort
of standoff to raise it so that it is not laying in the wet.

The spark plugs should be matched up with the old ones to be sure that are the same as the new spark plugs and that the threads are not too long or too short and if the spark plugs were pre-gapped or if they need to be gapped, and the auto part store should have given you that information along with any spark plug gap because some spark plugs you can not set the gap on or they will be damaged. The spark plug gap should also be printed on the emission label out under the hood. Also, the other three spark plugs and wires should be changed to complete the ignition tune-up.
The spark plug gap should be the same amount between all of the spark plugs, and the farther apart that the gap is between the spark plugs the rougher the engine will run and idle, and the closer that you get to the same spark plug gap between the spark plugs the smoother the engine will run and idle.
It is also very important that the spark plugs be connected to the correct terminals on the coil pack or the engine will have a severe mis-fire and it will set a mis-fire DTC (Data Trouble Code) and cause the check engine light to come on.
Here is a firing order diagram to help assist you and let me know if need help with this diagram or if you require any further assistance.
