My trunk on my 2004 Chevy Malibu will not stay shut. There is no rhyme or reason why it opens when it does. Sometimes, it opens when I open any of the 4 car doors. Sometimes it opens when the car is in DRIVE and I am stopped at a light or stop sign. It has even popped open while I was driving. The trunk button works sometimes and sometimes does not. Help!!!!!

Some trunks have a lever near the trunk latch on the lid to disable electrically opening the trunk. Could be a short causing the trunk open switch to open the trunk. If it doesn't open electrically via a button then you have something bent and the trunk doesn't close properly.

Its time to replace the battery. This is common in Chevy cars, if the battery goes bad it doesn't hold a charge anymore. Whats happening in your case is the low voltage isn't keeping the trunk relay closed. When you turn the key all the juice goes to the stater and lets the truck pop open. Just to prove my point, give it a jump start and it will fire right up and the trunk will stay closed.

It is in the trunk on the left hand side. If you trunk is not opening, there is a relay that is plugged in the fuse box that causes this problem. Replaced relay on my car and fixed the problem

Hello. The electronic opener needs new battery. Change it and it will open. The dealer can get you a new key. Get the Vehicle Identification Number & Bill of sale or good proof it is your car and they will help you get a key.

sounds like the button has shorted out,, pop it out and jumper the 2 wires that go to it, if the trunk opens replace the button, if not,, your getting voltage feedback to the button and it will eventually burn out

try the key again as put the key in several times then turn clock wise while turning press the trunk down and keep it pressed while turning the key

check the latch on the truck lid looks like an upside down u and not like there is a bar in the way. if it looks like a bar in the way then pry it down and left to make the u shape and shut the trunk

i have a 2005 chevy malibu and i close the trunk with the keys inside and the little button on the door is stock but the car is open is and other way to open the trunk from inside of the car?

Try pushing the trunk release and turning the key in the lock at the same time.
It sounds like the electric lock has not released for what ever reason.
You should hear the trunk release relay when you push the remote.

Try to apply pressure from the top of the trunk and push short burst while using the key, If this doese not work you can try to enter from the rear seat taking out the bolts for the rear back rest.
