My f350 w/v10 has a serious loss of power from a standstill. The engine will bog down when in forward gear. In reverse, I can spin the duallys. In park or neutral the engine seems to have plenty of hp. I have replaced the catalytic converter. Was told it was plugged. Also shouldn't there be a cable from the throttle body to the trans. A kick-down control.

You can spin the duallys in reverse because reverse is a MUCH lower gear. NO, there is no kickdown cable for your transmission. Your transmission is controlled electronically.
If the engine is bogging down or if the transmission is trying to start up in the wrong gear, either the check engine light should be on or the O/D OFF light should be flashing. The best course of action in diagnosing a problem with a computer controlled engine and transmission is to scan the computers that control them to check for fault codes.

P.S. If your truck is equipped with 4-wheel antilock brakes with Traction Control, it won't LET you spin your duallys in a forward gear...it is DESIGNED that way.

I want to thank you for your input. I have access to a code reader and had come to the same fix. I was not sure about the kickdown cable so that was very helpful as I have no Haynes to reference. I'm confident that this course of action will solve my problem. Thank you again, John Mason, Bakersfield, Ca.

Van idles fine but dies when put in gear

no car told ,at all just VAN and Chrysler told
no VIN, no year ,no van model and worse no engine told (size and cylinder count)
dies in Drive and Reverse and low PRNDL
not told fuel it burns gasoline ,diesel, LNG, LPG, or?

for this failure top cause is low fuel pressure.
but we can hear the engine, if misfiring or just bogging
bogging is smooth loss of power not violent
like walking in a mud swap, smooth.

post the vin and we tell you what's under the hood.

2007 Lincoln engine hesitates

no VIN 8th digit told.(engine)
well; if a tune up fails (spark plugs) and Spark COP boots.
then check fuel pressure by the book.
bogs under load,
stalls means engine stop spinning as in zero RPM./
loss of power or bogging , and not violent loss, means mostly fuel supply is weak. or low injector rail pressure found
a shop has the tool to do that, why not put them in the loop>?

I have a 2001 nissan xterra - will not engage in reverse gear - any solutions?

Does it seem to bog down when in reverse as you accelerate? If so the trans maybe stuck in forward gear (mechanical problem) resulting in both forward & rev being applied.

I have a 1990 GMC RALLY VAN 3500. When I put the van in any forward gear it seems as though the emergency brake is on. There is force on the engine as though it is trying to turn the transmission but no...

when you say you checked the rear end for problems and things appeared good did you check the rear end internally to see if there is a broken gear tooth or metal in the differential oil.i`ve one were this was the problem(a broken gear) that would get caught and stop the forward motion or make it hard to turn.i`ve also had it were the rear brakes were causing a forward motion problem like your having.the shoes were rotating so far when the drum was turning then apply and lock up until it was put in reverse.just some things to check out.if things were working good with the rear drive shaft removed and the problem starts with it in then the problem is in the back end some where as mentioned above.
