I just had my wifes 2002 Dodge Stratus ES engine replaced and rebuilt. The car will fire but wont crank over or start. It has compression, fuel, spark, etc.. winds up really slow and tight. The battery is brand new too. Why won't the car start?

it has good fuel pressure. does the flywheel have to be in a certain position for the crank sensor to pick it up? and if so what position??

Check the fuel pressure and fuel regulator. You can have fuel, but not enough pressure to push threw the injectors.

fuel pressure is good. Does the flywheel have to be in a certain position in order for the crank sensor to pick it up correctly and if so what is the correct position. It looks like theres 9 different positions. Also when I turn the key over 3 times without engaging the starter I get code P1684, then -------, then the word done. Why won't it start. The motor is rebuilt, new small block, gaskets, cams, rockers, bolts, the works... What am I missing or forgetting??

No the flywheel is fine. If it had to be in a certain position, the bolts would have been offset. As far as the code, it is a manufacturer specific code. I don't have my book at home and can let you know what it is tomorrow.

Could it be the timing belt?

I have 2005 I changed the starter and battery good but it still won't start

First does it crank, if it does then check to see if the fuel injectors are getting fuel.....could be a fuel pump...

second....if there is nothing when you turn the key and the battery is good and the starter was replaced...it could be a bad ground.....thats the ground coming off your battery and goes to your chassis of the car.........let me know how you make out.

Why wont stratus start

seems like if it was getting fuel it would start. if it starts with fluid it should stay running if its getting fuel. also there are two different cam gears that come on these engines. if the wrong one is installed it wont start unless you unplug the cam sensor. make sure you have the right gear. if it dosnt look the same as the old one, its wrong. also check your engine vacum while cranking. if the vacum is low its a sign the timing chain is off the marks. your plugs would all be wet with fuel if it wont fire, check for this if above checks out

Stratus wont start

Do you get a code from OBDII? That should clue you to the problem, if you do. Does that one have a fuel return from the fuel rail? If not, you may have to bleed the fuel rail. Otherwise... it sounds like your injectors aren't firing. Has it had old bad gasoline in it?

I have a 2001 dodge stratus, new distributor, spark plugs, has air compression fuel and spark and it cranks but wont turn, also just put a brand new crankshaft sensor in. Trying to figure out why it wont...

An engine needs 3 things to run...air, fuel, and compression....but they also need to happen at the correct time. If you have verified that the engine not only has enough fuel pressure to operate the injectors, but that the injectors are firing. That all of the spark plugs are getting fire, and that each of the cylinders have enough compression to run. I would think you have to check your timing marks.

My dodge stratus wont start it will turn over but wont start

Listen for the fuel pump when you first turn on the key to the run position. If you hear it then spray a small amount of starting fluid in air intake while someone tries to start it if the engine fires then most likely a Crank Position Sensor. The CPS controls your injectors.

Okay I have a 2002 Dodge stratus and recently the car just died out. So after gettin a tune up another problem occured where I had to replace the starter. Now with new spark plugs and a new starter the car...

I don't think the key has anything to do with it. Spray a little staring fluid in the throttle body while someone tries to start it. if it fires off, spray a small amount in it to keep it running. if it stops you know you have an issue with a fuel filter / pump or fuel regulator. Main thing is to be sure the gas is getting up to the engine.
