2002 Pontiac Grand Prix - I put the key in and turn to start, I hear a click, then it doesn't start - in fact the entire car suddenly goes dead and the key gets stuck in the ignition. I can press the release under the column to remove key, and then disconnect the battery for a few secs and turn key to reset computer, then reconnect battery and boom, the car will start. I've done this several times over the past week successfully, but now it doesn't seem to work anymore. What is the source of the problem? Bad computer? Ignition? Security?

The first thing I would do is clean your battery connections very good. you may have to remove the plastic covers off the cable ends to get them cleaned good. Also make sure you get the connection bolts tight.

My 2004 Pontiac Grand Am ignition switch all of a sudden with the key will not turn on or turn at all for that matter this has not happened before Why ?

It sounds like your telling us the key won't turn in the ignition anymore for some reason. If that is the case the problem is one or more of the tumblers in the ignition have fallen, if this is the case you will have to replace the ignition itself or at least the ignition core. If you mean the key turn but the vehicle doesn't start I would start by disabling the alarm system you installed to eliminate the starter kill switch as the source of the problem. Also, if this is the case try jumping the vehicle. If it turns over and starts with a jump your problem is the battery having a dead cell in it. It can have all the world but if you have a dead cell it doesn't have the amperage to turn the starter over.

2002 Pontiac Grand prix wont start; unable to remove key

On many cars, if the battery is dead, it locks the key in the ignition. Put a battery charger on the car or replace the battery and give it a shot.

Good luck.

Car wont start

This sounds like a dead or open battery, clean the battery cables with a wire cleaning tool avail from any parts store, at the same time take the battery out and have it tested, Kragen does this for free! Most of the time the battery has a broken/burnt post inside, so it may show Green for go, but in fact is no good. Factory trained Ford and GM Technician 30 years in the field.
