1993 mercury village engine was running was driving down road it shut down, check engine light was on , friend said to change fuel pump and still no spark at engine plugs, what should i try next? is there a fuel pump reset switch i need to look for?

Fuel pumps don't have anything to do with spark. Have the codes read. My guess you lost the crank sensor, ignition module, or coil. Check your fuses also.

If the fuel pump works, disconnect a fuel line in the engine bay and run it to a bucket. Jump the fuel pump relay with engine off to keep pump running. It will pump tank down for you.
check the wires on the feed to the fuel pump ,,also check that it hasnt got the cut out thingy on top of the fuel tank like the ford explorer,unless this is only fitted on the europeon models .?
The electronics inside the Mercury Villager are slightly primitive, however there should be a third wire connected to the original fuel pump, and it must be taken off and put onto the new fuel pump, this becomes a ground wire.
The most common problem effecting 1st generation Mercury Villagers (1993-1998) are engine related. Fuel pumps are prone to failure so make sure you change the fuel filter every 50,000 miles to help prevent the fuel pump from overworking. You may also experience faulty fuel injectors so use a good fuel injector cleaner like Seafoam or Techron every 6 months. Other than this they are not bad vehicles and can be a good buy due to low resale value.
Replace the TFI module. Ford back in 1986 thur 1993 had problems like the one you wrote about.
TFI module gets hot and shuts car or truck off then when it cools sometmies starts and sometimes not.
if check engine light is flashing, it means too much raw fuel is getting into catalytic converter because engine is not burning it. maybe a spark plug or plug wire or dist cap. NOT the O2 sensor.
