Mercedes e230 japan was starting well and cuts spark on1#4 cylinders after a second .scaned with a laucher x431 ,cleared all stored codes remained with one fault misfire on 1#4 reason ignition stage 2 current level not reached.swaped the coils no change .later on it changed ,cutting all cylinders spark comes goes on both coils unless i remove the connector to 1#4 it will run 2#3 continuously. cleared err codes again ,runs with all cylinders fo about 3 minutes and starts shaking again.NOW IT STARTS AND CUTS BOTH SPARK AND INJECTORS IN ABOUT A SECOND i dont know what else to touch

Check wiring harness.. could have a break in it... causing it to stop firing..

hey thanks for bringing me up to speed. ive been working on many other problems but with your great explanation i remember.
we need to check the compression on that cyl. and compare it to the compression on 2 other cylinders your choice.
but before you do this get a can of carb cleaner . and with the car idling spray around the intake manifold in the area of #6 cyl. what we are looking for is a small vacuum leak that would also act like this. with the engine idling and spraying around the intake the engines idle sould not change and if it does when you spray you have an intake leaking.

do a compression check. if you have a low compreeion reading below 80psi you need to do a head job. question is the iol milky on the dip stick?

Next change swap the injector with another and see of the problem moves.  If it does it's a bad injector.

Have you tried new Spark Plugs? Also after removing the plugs.
Take a paper towel and roll it up so it is like a long thick pencil. Stick that down the hole the spark plus came out of. Just to clean the moisture out. Also blow some compressed air down the hole.
Make sure all the moisture is out. The put the plugs in.
When you wash you car. Be careful if you wash the engine.
Dont let water get in to the plug holes..

Is engine running on all 4 cylinders when it starts? If it is not it may be the control module on the inner wing under windscreen washer bottle, failure of this module is very common. You should have a scan done to check trouble codes as the control module, is very expensive, good used control modules are available on eBay

the onboard settings are stored in a memory bank. you will lose no info on your settings. all cars have a default mode the car goes back to. you will have to set your clock though. good luck

Mercedes e230 1998. cold starting.

Mercedes has a cold start valve to spray extra fuel to assist the ignition when the temperature is cold. This is the problem with the cold start valve is not opened when it needed. There are 2 possible causes: 1- The valve is bad. 2- The coolant temperature sensor is bad.
The valve part is expensive and labor is not cheap. The first economic way to address is to replace the coolant temperature sensor. This sensor gives a different resistance reading as temperature changed. When it is bad, it give an erratic reading at cold temperature so the ECM could not recognize to give a signal to open the Cold start valve.
