Your right about relays and staying on. But you did'nt say anything about the car or truck you own. Nissan has made alot of cars and trucks that were sold in the United States, and most of the other countries in the world and for many years. And many models are built with different motors and options and built differently still for differentluy for different coutries and even differeent states in the USA. In ganeral after its been sitting turned off for awhile check in the underhood fuse realy box for relays or fuses a that are hot to the touch. watching the assory that is still on pull the hot relay and if it stops working yoyu found the right relay anyway. Many Nissans have many relay banks both under the hood and in the dash. Most cars and trucks you disconnect one Battery cable and put a light bulb between the battery cable and the battery. If the light lights brightly thiers a draw. Checking the light you installed pull fuses and relays one at a time to see the effect on the light. If no effect put it back in and go to the next one. Once you found whats staying on find out ( by working the offending part) what is supposed to turn it off ( relay. switch. ) and see what it takes to turn it off correctly. Most all cars have a slight draw to keep radio memery and computer memery but a light buld will only light dimly if it's normal.

Wont turn on

Most Chrysler vehicles have a fuse that comes from the factory pulled out but is pushed in when arrives at dealer. This fuse controls a lot of the accessories on the vehicle to keep them from draining the battery between manufacture and arrival at dealer. I was actually told it also keeps train bums from running the radio and heater while the car is in transit on a train. It is usually located in the fuse compartment under the hood and may have a special guard around it different from the other small fuses.

Interior lights will not go off

The interior lights are controlled by 2 fuses (accessory fuses , 1 in the kick panel under the dash and the other in the fuse box under the hood) , by door and trunk switches (located in the corner of the doors, (it depressed when a door is open) as well as a switch in the hood. try the following steps in the proceeding order

1.) try changing the hood light switch to off , there should be 3 settings (door, off, on) switch it to off , if its set to on it will remain on.

If the above fails chances are one of the door switch is shorting,

2.) open each door , 1 at a time , locate the switch the door pushes, Its on the car body and when the door closes it pushes in the switch. press each switch 1 at a time to find the shorting switch. once found , check that the door is closing properly and adjust toe lock by turning the screws and sliding it in until it works properly.

If the above fails chances are you have an electrical harness failure.

3.) pop the hood, locate the fuse box, locate the acc / accessory fues by using the diagram on the fuse box cover. remove the fuse. This will turn off all the accessory electrical so it wont drain your battery. Get the vehicle to a garage as soon as you could. Alternatively you can remove the fuse from the kickpanel under the dash. (here is a diagram on the cover).

In the unlikely case you cant locate the fuse, remove the negative battery pole, This will turn off all car electrical so your battery wont drain giving you enough time to get to a garage. Chances are it involves harness rewiring / relay failure which will need tracing and replacing and should always be done by a professional. Your vehicle is controlled by a computer and if the wires are shorted this can damage the cars cpu which will cost a lot to repair. So follow the above advice and if steps 1 and 2 fail will 3 is the best choice for you as well as a local garage.

Battery was dead. -30 celcius outside. Boosted battery and truck started. After driving for a while, went to turn off truck, and with ignition switch off and key out, engine still ran as if the key was in....

I suggtes check in the Power Distrbution Box (under hood), the power distribution box, trailer tow and electronic shift on the fly relay blocks are located in the engine compartment near the brake master cylinder.

Look position 20, 50AMP (Maxi Fuse) for Ignition Switch (B4 & B5) ans position 21 (same sizes) for Ignition Switch (B1 & B3)...

This is an additional inquiry regarding my Taurus. My 1998 Ford Taurus has a battery that keeps dying in about 1-2 days. The battery is new, and I was having the same problem with the old battery as well....

The best way to check for a power drain or a "draw" on the battery is to dis-connect the negative, or "Neg" (-) side battery cable and then connect a test light not a meter, between the "Neg" (-) side battery post and the battery terminal at the end of the battery cable.

With the key removed, all of the doors closed, and no accessories turned on, and also if there is a light under the hood dis-connect it for now. Normally the test light when connected should start off bright and then quickly dim down until the test light is almost not even showing a connection and the filament inside of bulb that is inside of the test light will barely glow and not even light up, this is normal and the only thing that should be drawing power is the KAM (Keep Alive Memory) for any control moudules or accessories that require a KAM. If this is the case then the condition of the battery would be suspected of being at fault and an internal short inside of the battery will not show up as a draw on the battery, and the battery voltage will slowly drop off all by itself with nothing even connected to the battery.

If the test light does not dim down and stays bright, or it will dim down but will also still dully light up the test light, then there is a draw on the battery and if you start removing the fuses until the test light dims down and barely makes the test light filament glow, then you will know what circuit is at fault, but if the light never dims down with all of the fuses removed, the doors are all closed, and no accessories are turned on, then dis-connect the wiring to the alternator and if the test light dims down to almost nothing, then the draw is in the alternator itself.

Common places to find a draw are the vanity lights inside of the sun visors are not turning off or are shorted, the power door lock(s) are faulty, or after-market accessories that are not properly installed, and there is even the possibility that something metal has dropped down into a cigarette lighter or a power point and is making a connection there, such as a watch battery. Also check the wiring for any wires that have been melted together or if they are missing insulation allowing the wires to touch each other or a body ground.

1997 park ave battery dies over night

I just posted my experience in another place on this site but on my 1992 PA the accessories relay stuck closed. This relay is the one that allows you to listen to the radio etc and keep things on until you open the door then all shuts off. When it is stuck closed accessories keep running until your battery drains dead. The relay was replaced and all worked great.
