I have a 97 Toyota Camry. The AC has been working great and gets really cold. Yesterday as I am driving the light on the ac power button starts to blink, after about 45 seconds the ac turns off and stops working and I mean nothing works no lights and the fan does't blow air either. The compressor doesn't kick in either. One curious thing is I checked the pressure on the compressor and it was over 100. I was told at the auto parts place that it should never be over 45.

CHECK THE AC AND HEATER CONTROL FUSE.MORE LIKELY FUSE BLOWED BECAUSE AC COMPRESSOR COULD HAVE FAILED IF LOW SIDE IS OVER 100 PSI. THE REED VALVE PLATE IN COMPRESSOR PROBABLY DAMAGED CAUSED COMPRESSOR FAILURE BLOWED THE HVAC CONTROLS FUSE. HAVE AC SHOP CHECK IT OUT.

The ac was working fine for a long time, and I did not add freon gas so why would pressure be at 100? Also what about the fan why isn't it working?

  • Jonah Oneal Aug 29, 2011

FAN STOP WORKING BECAUSE YOU COULD HAVE BLOW FAN FUSE OR BAD FAN RELAY. THE AC PRESSURE WILL STAY AT 100 PSI. WITH COMPRESSOR OFF.CHECK AC AND HEATER CONTROL FUSE AND CHECK AC COMPRESSOR FUSE. IF LOW SIDE 100 PSI YOU HAVE COMPRESSOR PROBLEM .

Auto Camry 97 cooling fan is not switching on automatically, the temp gauge shows normal temp. Also both AC and cooling fan works when AC is switched on?

If the temp gauge shows normal, you would not expect the fan to be on much. It is controlled by the coolant temp sensor. If the fan will not come on when the car gets really hot, it is possible this sensor has failed.

It is normal for both AC and cooling fans to be on when you turn on AC to cool setting.

1991 toyota camry a/c button light flashing. no cold air.

When these lights flash it means there is a problem with the AC system, that can be a low charge and that is the most common issue.

2004 camry ac light blinking and throws hot air. Suggestions?

My 2003 Toyota Camry AC often starts blowing hot air and the AC light starts blinking. I don't know why the following process works, but it does. Using the temp selector (left) reduce the temperature all the way down to Max Cold and then push the Auto button. It will start blowing out very cold air. After a little while push the temp selector to the desired temperature.
