Test the power at the out side of the switch with the brake on. If nothing there the switch is faulty. If there is voltage there, you have a fault between there and the lights or at the connection at the lights.
I had an 89 Thunderbird. Problem seemed to be the brake light switch. Easily replaced by yourself, about $50. from Ford, probably cheaper from an Auto Parts store
