It sounds like you need to have your transmission fluid flushed. As transmission fluid ages it starts to brake down causing improper shifting and less protection for your transmission against friction and heat. I think if you have your transmission flushed it should take care of your problem. I hope this helps you out.

I would recommend getting the fluid and filter changed. As the transmission warms up the fluid gets thinner. if at high temps the transmission isn't operating properly your fluid is probably not operating efficiently

How many miles? I'm guessing 150k atleast. A complete transmission flush/pan filter is probably your only option. Other than that, it is mechanical and needs to be rebuilt or the torque converter replaced, etc. Basically, if the flush/pan filter doesn't work, you probably need a new vehicle.

Why wont my 97 plymouth grand voyager shift into fourth gear at 40 mph?

Sticking valves. When is the last time you had the transmission serviced? Since it will shift when cold, I would suspect a valve body issue.

How do you fix a transmission on a 1998 Plymouth Voyager? When shifting down the transmission bumps then when you start it won't change out of first gear. I have added transmission fluid to several times

The most common fault with these electonic transmissions is the input speed sensor usually fails causing all sorts of erratic behaviour i suggest replacing it first they are only about $50

I was driving and transmission fluid started leaking and shooting on the hood. I put more in and it was almost instantly gone

Do Not drive the Van until the source of the leak has been identified and repaired.
Let me know when you find out where the leak is coming from by replying in the Comments portion of this Posting.
Include the Size Engine and whether this is a Grand Voyager and what Transmission Type (number) you have if you know.

1998 Plymouth Grand Voyager 3.0 Liter engine. $

Hate to say it but not very likely. Mine cost me $1500 for a rebuilt. Doesn't hurt to check a few local shops that deal with transmissions.
