What engine does it have ? 3.4 or 3.8 L Turns over but wont catch ??? turns over but won't start an run !!!!!! What wire did you check for Ground ? Looking at a wiring diagram so you know which wire is what . Black/ white wire , pin K at the ICM - ignition control module . This is ground for ICM - ground point G-111 . Looking at service repair manual would tell you where this ground is located . G111 (VIN K) Top right of the engine, below the ignition control module.

Take off the distributor cap. Check the star wheel that is splined to the distributor shaft that the pick-up coil uses. Make sure this wheel is not loose on the distributor shaft. It is right above the pick-up. If it is loose, replace the distributor. This is a common problem. If it needs one, all the part stores stock the distributor.

My 96 chevy 4x4 1500 wont start.it was running beefore i did a motor swap, also the other vehicle was running to.ive changed crank sensor, cam postion moduel, oil pressure switch

Check the fuse panel to see if the fuses are getting power. A power feed wire may not have been hooked up. Check to see if there is spark at the plugs. Check to see iv=f voltage is triggering the injectors. Check to see if there is fuel pressure. Spray some starter fluid into the throttle body to see if it will run.

08 impala wont start

Impalas are a nightmare on wheels. My brother had a long list of problems, and the one that kept his from starting was the sensor in the transmission. Try starting it in neutral. He traded it in without repairing it, because it involves removing the transmission.

My mpv wont turn over no spark

If the van was running before you changed the wires, I don't see how it is not firing the plugs now unless you got the wrong wires and they are not making contact with the coil towers and the plugs.
If there is no spark on any of the wires, something happened to the coil pack or the crank/cam sensors. Or a fuse or relay for the coil pack.
I would probably try an old plug wire to make sure, then check the coil for voltage.

Car turns over but wont start. Changed the distributor and the cap, ignition module. Tried to get spark from plug connector in the wire and there isnt one, when i grounded it to the chassis. What the...

Take spark plug out and while plug wire is connected to plug...ground plug to chassis and turn the engine and watch for spark in plug gap.

If you have a spark in the gap...I'd then check fuel system for clogged filter, fuel pump pressure etc.
If you don't have a spark in plug gap...then I'd go to the coil or coil pack depending on the model.

Hope this helps...

depending on mileage, but possible tune-up could fix it. if already done then check ignition coil pack and ignition wires also spark plugs, check vacuum hoses for leaks or porous, last injectors clogged - use some techron fuel injector cleaner (wal-mart has them). Also get the throttle body and iac valve cleaned by throttle cleaner . Also this other possibilities are to be checked and confirmed.:---- Engine running rough or misfiring can be cause by the following:

1.Defective spark plugs
2.Inadequate spark/coil, defective spark plug wire.
3. Lack of compression
4.False air leakage.
5. Faulty fuel injectors.
6. Insufficient fuel pressure.
7. Contaminated fuel.
8. EGR valve that is leaking.
9. Oxygen sensors.
10. Throttle position sensor.
11. Manifold absolute pressure sensor
12.Mass Airflow Sensor
13.Idle air control valve

--------- This should help.Keep updated.Thanks.Helpmech.

You have three choices. First, check the spark and coil system to ensure you are getting a spark. Pull off a plug wire from the coil pack and crank. Have someone watch to see sparks snapping off the coil pack. If you don't have any replace the control module under the coil packs.

Second, you may not be getting enough fuel pressure. Put a gauge on the fuel pressure test port. You may have a bad oil pressure sensor, located down above the oil filter. Check that oil pressure sender and make sure the connector is pushed in. The power to the fuel pump runs through the oil sender. If the engine starts and oil pressure doesn't come up quickly, the computer will shut off the fuel pump. Check this and you can also manually engage the fuel pump from the relay block down by the passenger feet.

Third choice, and it's a long shot, check the harmonic balancer and the crank position sensor. If the sensor is bad, the computer has no idea when to fire the spark plugs. A magnet is on the harmonic balancer and flys by a sensor to induce a voltage in the coil and tell the computer what position the crank is in.

You also may have a bad computer.

You can figure it out.

Use a squirt bottle of water and squirt the wires and plugs to see if you can cause a failure. you will know as soon as it gets wet if it is wire and spark plugs.

I have a 1995 impala ss with lt1 motor it wont start i changed the cap&rotor, starter, ingnition modulator, fuel filter and it still wont start

First thing I'd check is the optispark sub harness. Check both connections, the one by the optispark and the one on the passenger side of the intake manifold. Disconnect both sides and check for corrosion. This is a known weak spot on these motors.

If that checks out your going to want to start with the basics. Do you have spark and fuel? Pull the spark plug wire for a cylinder and using a spark tester test for spark while cranking. You want to have a nice blue spark. If you have good spark check for fuel pressure by hooking up a fuel pressure gauge to the shrader valve on the fuel rail. It should be in the high 40s - low 50s. If you have fuel also, check to make sure the injectors are getting a pulse using a noid light.
