1997 Ford Crown Victoria Ignition Cylinder locked with key in the on position and wont move forward and backwards , (Story) turned the car on and drove for a few minutes when i arrived to the house put the car in park and tried to turn the key to turn off the car and it didnt move so i tried moving the a shifting lever from park to neutral and then to drive and back to parking and still it didnt move , also tried moving the car back and foward in neutral and nothing also moved the tires to the straight position and nothing , last resort i removed the positive cable and the fuse from the ignition box and that turned the car off , i removed the Ignition Cylinder (still in the on position) and the Ignition Cylinder seems to be working fine (key turnes very well) i proceeded to use a flat screw driver to try to put the car in the off position and it didnt move (didn't force the flat head to turn) . any ideas on what it can be .???

Ok after messing with it and reading i finally came across this solution check to see if the " Ignition Starter Switch " is working (disconnect it and make sure it moves backwards and forward)
in my case that was the problem replaced it and my key can move now just fine bought it an Nappa Auto Parts for $41.95 part number KS6667 . Hope this helps someone out and saves them the time from taking the whole steering wheel apart

You never describe what type of fuel does your car use... is it a diesel or petrol engine? if its a diesel engine then i have the correct sollution that can help you. the problem will be on the injector pump, on the main switch. change the switch and the problem will be solved. or check whether power reaches there. when it reaches then is the injector switch doesnt work to close the main valve that the car can switch off. all the best

How to install a ignition switch in a 2000 crown victoria

The ignition switch is usually mounted to the steering column and is operated by a linkage rod.
NOTE On column-mounted ignition switches, don't confuse the switch with the lock cylinder and keys. The ignition switch is not normally visible. On some vehicles, the steering column support has to be removed and the column lowered to find the ignition switch. On others, the switch is accessible under the dash.

  • Remove the ignition switch wiring harness.
  • Unbolt it from its position.
  • Bolt the new switch into position.
  • Attach the witing harness.

Lost keys - 1997 Crown Vic - How do I drill out the ignition switch?

Before you do any drilling get your vehicle identification number and call the dealership and they might be able to cut you a key.You will probably have to give them some identification to show that you own the vehicle. This would be a lot easier than drilling the lock cylinder out.Hope this helps.Good luck.

1995 ford crown victoria gear locked , aleays stuck when parked at P position, need to torn off the engine to move the gear

If you are not parked on an incline when this occurs try another key as it sounds like your ignition switch is not returning to the proper position.Try jiggling the steering wheel the next time and if that works wire-brush the key if it is not BENT and try the process again.
