SOUNDS LIKE A FUEL SENSOR PROBLEM?

BEFORE YOU CALL YOUR LOCAL DODGE DEALER...

CALL BOTH: AUTO ZONE OR ADVANCED AUTO AND SEE WHAT THEY TELL YOU FIRST!

IT MAY BE A SIMPLE PART THAT YOU CAN BUY REASONABLE CHEAP! OR EVEN GET AT YOUR LOCAL JUNK YARD, ALONG WITH AN OWNERS MANUAL FOR THIS VEHICLE FOR $1.00 OR CHEAPER, TO TROUBLESHOOT YOURSELF!

I WOULD CALL THE FIRST TWO PLACES MENTIONED FIRST!

HOPE THIS HELPS!

Is your check engine light on? The reason I ask this question is because if it is on there is an electrical problem and I would have to say that problem would most likely be your throttle positioning sensor. If your check engine light is not on then it is most likely a mechanical problem and I could once again take a guess at what that might be. But if I had to guess if it was mechanical I would probably start with the catalytic converter. I hope one of these will help you out and you get your problem solved.

thank you but we have changed both already im so frustrated with this car the check engine light comes on and goes off ever since we changed the engine

  • Anonymous Aug 26, 2011

When you changed the engine did you happen to pinch a wiring harness? If you have a bare wire touching or grounding out some place that may cause what you are describing as well. I hope you figure this thing out. If you do have an electrical short it can take a lot of time and money to figure it out.

I have1990 Chevy Astro van,it starts just fine, when it warms up,driving it or sitting still in drive or reverse, it stalls,I start it back up,in park or neutral,it stays idiling.Idles cold, stalls warm

Check the ECM grounds, they are under the passenger side kick panel. When the engine goes to warm status, the Oxygen sensors come on, If there is no ground on the ECM then it starts pulling ground voltage across the sensors and that causes big issues.

91' bonneville ran out of gas and now it wont stay running unless my foot is on the gas

Check TPS -Throttle Position Sensor

May be worn out

Test it --not replace-- unless it has failed a test

Also the fuel pump maybe worn out as well

My truck wont start unless i prime the carborator first, then it wont stay running unless i rev it high just before i put it in gear, or im accellerating...

To start with, you have a throttle body instead of a carburetor.
On that throttle body is a component called an air control valve.
That valve is how the computer controls the idle speed. It should open and close the air flow into the intake manifold as needed.
Is the check engine light on when you are driving ? Have you checked the fuel pressure ?

It started up perfectly the other morning and then we stopped to fuel up and put power steering fluid and transmission fluid in and then it just wouldn't start back up. We had it jumped but then I had to...

had this happen to me turns out one of the pistons was loose an smashing the spark-plug had to get home the same way time for a new motor unless you want to remove the oil pan and try to put in a new piston bearing and tighten it back down also replace damaged spark-plug

Van won't stay on

it sounds like a fuel problem .. check the fuel filter and air cleaner .. first always check the small items before jumping in and doing other things.

Van trouble

The gear shift selector is probably "locked you out" because of the fact that there is a Park-Safety solonoid that keeps the car in park unless your foot is depressing the brake so that the gear-shifter cannot come out of park unless a person is trying to move it.

Why that isn't working is probably because the battery on your vehicle is completely 100% dead. If a battery is completely 100% dead, a jump-start is usually not enough to get a vehicle to start because the battery's electrolyte level is so low that it can't actually hold a charge. I recommend you replace the battery at your first convenience, as it will probably alleviate both problems.
