If you have a long flat screw driver put it through the front grill to the hood latch and move it back if some one pushes down on the hood that will help you a lot to move the latch to right easly.

you don't have many options right now, here is what you can try.
if the cable broke on the dash end, try to removing the release latch from the dash and grab the remaining part of the cable with locking pliers.
if the cable broke at the hood latch end. you will need to pry the latch open in the same direction that the cable release operates. this might be possible with a long flat screw driver with the grill in place. to accomplish this try finding photos of the latch online to see how the mechanism operates. there will be two levers one with the cable attached the other is the safety. the cable lever needs to be released for the hood to open
Inside the car where you broke the handle off the hood release you will have to look under the handle or behind the dash to find the cable that it was attached to. IF you find the cable you can grab it with a pair of pliers and pull it to release the hood. It works just like bicycle brakes if you know what i'm saying. Very simple. You shouldn't have any issues finding it. THanks.
If the cable broke in the cabin, pull off the side panel in the footwell and use a pair of channel locks or good pliers to pull on the cable to get the hood open.
If it broke at the hood you'll probably need to lift the car and see how to get to the release by getting between the radiator, front end and grasping the latch.
you will need to get to release arm or arm on latches, some of these bmws use two latches one on each side of the hood, use a long thin screw driver and try to reach the release arm,this arm is where the cable would pull to release the hood, try going from under the front of car and also from the grill area,this is not easy but can be done.
if it is broken at the handle you should be able to grasp the cable with pliers to pull it otherwise you will have to go out front of truck and the best way i found requires long arms, but you would have to use a flashlight and slide under front bumper and look upward to find cable/latch assembly. You may be able to do it through the grill but if cant see it through the grill under neath.if you in front of truck pull latch to right and it will release.
You will need 2 people to get the hood open. While you pull on the hood release cable have an assistant gently pound on the center of the hood until it pops up. If this does not work, inspect the hood release lever to see if the pivot broken, if so pull directly on the cable with a pair of locking pliers. After you get the hood open make sure to spray the latch with penetrating oil (WD40)
