My 2006 ranger wont start. Cables seem to be fine I have lights inside and out. When I turn the key I only get clicks. I was able to jump the car and I let it run thinking the battery might be low but it died after 2 minutes when I put it in drive and now I'm back to square one.

If the jump started your vehicle and then it only ran for 2 minutes,it sounds like your alternator is not providing power to run the vehicle.

i think it is the alternator because the idiot light is connected to your regulator of your alternator. it is an indication that your alternator is not charging anymore.

The first thing you should do is remove the cables from the battery and clean both the clamps and the battery posts until the surfaces look bright.
I apply a protective coating before I replace the cables but it's not necessary to find out if you have found the problem. After you tighten the battery clamps, try to twist the clamp with your hand. If it moves it is not tight enough.
I've often see cars with battery post to small for the clamps.
If it's loose and you can't tighten it any more, you can purchase lead cups that fit over the post.
Remove the clamp and back the nut up as far as it will go, then use a screw driver to spread the clamp. Put the lead cup over the post and press the clamp down until the post is flush with the top of the clamp and tighten it.

You may have a failed battery, or maybe just dirty battery terminals. Check for both.

If the battery terminals are ok switch on the headlights - if they don't work the battery may be faulty.
If you have a multimeter check the battery terminal voltage- it should be greater than 12V.

SOURCE: 05 ford escape wont start. jump started it and it

okay try this....talk to your parts store and get a battery load tester, and find out if the battery is indeed dead. My guess is it sounds like the Altenator is dying. they are around 50-100 and can be install by a pro in minutes.

06 pontiac grand prix wont start no clicking when you turn the key over even jump starting the battery, has dash lights & radio & parking lights. battery tested good. put a used starter & altinator on

Used parts such as starters and altinators don't last. It might **** but it sounds like you need to buy a new starter, altinator, and battery. Or just start with buying one at a time.

My car wont start. When I turn the key it makes a clicking noise. The lights all work, but when I turn the key they go dim. Tried jump starting the car last night and it still won't start.

check the battery cables. depending on how old the cables are they may need changing. a good place to find replacements are local scrap yards. many sell auto parts. also if the cables are loose a good connection between the jump starter and battery will not be present. if neither of these are wrong you may need to replace the starter itself.

2006 Ford Fusion will not turn over and the electrical is making noise along with dim lights. HELP

the battery is most likely low or the cables to the battery have become corroded. try a jump and clean cables. symtoms of low battery/corroded cables are a rapid click/buzz sound when turning key to start

1988 Ford Ranger truck, new battery and new alternator but car won't start, it just clicks?

the clicks are a signature of a bad battery, since your is new, it probally is not bad, i would try to jump the car with cables, even though your battery is new, you dont know how long is sat ont he shelf before you took it home, may be weak, 1 good jump to get the motor going and the alternator will charge it right up so wont have to so it again....

the only other thing is the starting system left to look at if that dont work is the starter, try banging on it a little with a hammer, not to hard though, as someone turns the key, this will sometime free up a locked up solinoid.

Good Luck

Wont start. seems starter is not turning over

Hi ShyFi,

I assume you've gone though the jumper cables routine?

You need to describe what it does do.
What happens when you turn the key? Clicks? Nothing? Dash lights come on?

What happens when you jump it?

Do the head lights come on? Bright? Low?

How do the terminals on the battery look? Clean? corroded?

Any recent events? Maintenance?

Comment back with the details.

Best regards,
Mike

91 camry wont start fuse problem?..the car is great running cond.

Probably the battery. The battery may have enough voltage for the lights to work; however, this may not be enough voltage to start the car.

Find someone with cables to give you a jump start. Then take the car by an auto parts place and have them load test your battery. Most stores do this at no charge.
