Question about Dodge Intrepid

1 Answer

I have an 02 intrepid ES with 3.5, 126K. All of a sudden the trans dropped into 2nd when I stopped. It would not shift out of 2nd until I stopped and turned the car off. The engine light came on. When the engine is cold and I drive for a while the trans shifts ok. When the car gets warm and I stop the trans drops into 2nd again. I drove 2 miles to the freeway without any problem, drove 50 miles on the freeway without slowing low enough for the trans to shift down. When I came to a stop the trans dropped into 2nd and wouldn't shift. The following are the codes I got. There are 4 codes: PO700, PO731, PO841 and P1776. Please advise me about this. Thanks, Subhasis

P1776 is the only code you need to be concerned with it a problem with the solenoid back (not the transmission valve body) Also did you recieve the transmission reflash that the dealer are supposed to do? And this is why you are dealing with a delay engagement (by the way its not second gear its 3rd)

Grand Cherokee began shifting hard. Sometimes feels like long time to get into 2nd gear. When coming to stop, seems to shift into 1st gear suddenly, like skipping over 3rd and 2nd gears on downshift.

You don't say what year model. Could be vacuum leak, or perhaps trans filter and fluid needs to be changed. If this doen't help, might be time for trans shop testing.

97 town car not shifting from 1st to 2nd gear

Check the Coolant (antifreeze) level. My 94 continental has a hard time shifting from 2nd to 3rd when the level is low. Also, this may indicate that the transmission fluid is too old to work properly. The transmission fluid is cooled at the bottom of the radiator, since cool fluid works better than hot fluid (especially when the trans fluid is old) that could make the transmission not shift properly. Keep the coolant level up until you can have the trans fluid checked.

I have a 2006 Chevy Silverado 1500 z71 it has a 4l60-e trans want shift out of 1st gear until around 5500rpms and you hold it and will not shift out of 2nd gear when in 2nd gear and when I try to drop down...

If you have used the vehicle like that for as little as
a few days, you stand little chance of saving the trans
from a complete rebuild

You need a trans shop or a place you like & trust to
road test & diagnose

I think your beyond a solenoid or module fix, since
you have been using it & it slips as well ,instead of
proper shifting

2001 Isuzu Trooper 4wd automatic trans. It will shift ou of 1st at about 20 mph into 2nd then loses power, rpm's drop until it slows to about 10mph then down shifts back to 1st. Any ideas why?

Sounds to me that your transmission is put itself into what is call (Limp Mode). This happens when the transmission fluid in the trans hydraulic valve body located on the bottom and in the trans pan are not within the parameters of the transmission computer. You can remove the trans pan and gasket to check for metallic material in the bottom of the pan. There is normally a strong magnet in the pan catch the material so I can't move freely through the transmission itself. It only takes a very small piece of foreign material to stop the flow of the valve body fluid. I would first take it to somewhere that had a automotive diagnostic scan tool that can read transmission codes to see if there are any active codes. Next you can drop the transmission pan yourself and look for material in it. Basically do a visually inspection and service the transmission fluid, gasket, and filter. Remember, all a automatic transmission is a extremely complicated fluid pump. If its pumping trans fluid properly it's probably working just fine. Been when the trans fluid gets hot, scorched, and stops moving. It will not work. Hope this helps

When i slow down the trans shifts hard and stays locked in 1st or 2nd gear untill i restart the car it is a 2003 dodge intrepid 2.7

This is called a 2nd gear limp mode -- it is a safety devise in the computor to prevent interior damage to the transmission -- the cause could be a speed sensor or a blown rear low/reverse seal inside the transmission.

After braking to stop tran's will not up shift without turning engine off shifting to park, When you go again every thing shifts fine untill you stop again Need help....thanks

you have a faulty trans control module. this is responsible for shifting the trans according to your engines rpm. take it to a shop and have it replaced.
