1991 Plymouth Acclaim wire problems?

1991 plymouth acclaim 2.5, every once and awhile when i start the car, she won't start... there is fire, she won't turn over though, and all of the guages seem to go haywire.... i have jiggled the relays (someone said that is the problem) i have put "iso-heat" in the gas tank (someone said that is the problem) i have checked all of the connections and the battery posts are clean and tight, i have changed the spark plugs, wires, rotar and cap... now the big problem i have is that when i bought it, it didn't have a radio, so i removed a radio from a sister car and am installing it, the colored wires are exactly the same, so i connected each respectively, the only thing i get when the key and lights are turned on, the unit lights up, there is no other power, memory, sound or any indication that the radio works, i have tested the fuses and panel, everything seems to be in good order, but still nothing, i have even tried from scratch and started with a different radio and still get nothing, i think i have a bad wire somewhere, but where and where/how can i find it?

Hey would like to talk to you on the phone perhaps about the problem please email me at [email protected] thanks

Do you mean by "Fire" as spark or fuel? remember you need 3 elements for a car to turn over and run, Air, Fuel and Spark, Now other things that could be a factor, fuel filter, crank and cam position sensors, mass air flow, Coolant temp sensor.

The radio though is interesting, did the head deck from your sisters car work in your sisters car? please explain the unit lights up? Such as does it display anything at all or nothing and the color light comes on. That could be if the car has a short somewhere it could've fried the radio, please answer my questions in your email thanks

My 1991 plymouth acclaim went dead and won't start. I dont't have fire to the distributor?

I had the same problem with my 1991 Plymouth Acclaim 3.0 liter engine. Check to see if your SBEC (computer located next to car battery) has gone out. Replacing it should solve your problem.

1991 Plymouth Acclaim stalls

One of the more common problems with the 2.5L & 2.2L engines that suffered the symptoms your describing, such as, starts & runs good, then at any given time would just quit, not start, but after sitting a while, or by the time the mechanic gets to it, it starts right up, or you sit on the side of the road for 20 min. or half hour then away it goes for a while longer, then quits again down the road. There is a pick-up plate under the distributor cap & rotor, with the wiring plug coming from it. 90% of the time, it's defective, and cuts out especially, but not limited to, more often when weather is hot.
