Have a helper lift slightly on the hood while the release catch is pulled. if this doesnt work have the helper push down on the hood to re-latch it then try again

From under front of vehicle, lay under hood and remove the hood latch with a long extension and rachet. This works on most vehicles. God-Bless!

2005 quattro , battery is dead and hood wont release. Is it an elecrtonic release?

Heidi, No electric release. The latch is probably stuck. While you pull the interior hood release have an assistant push down and pull up repeatably/vigorously until hood releases from stuck position. Lube latch and cable before closing hood. Check the attached links, instruction and guides, Good luck

Shift lock release worked...do I still need to take car in?

I think the shift inter-lock solenoid was stuck at the time. it can also be your brake switch did not make contact. next time check your brake lights to see if they work while it hapen. so just wait!
