Remove the surge tank, the serpentine belt, and unbolt the water pump (drain the radiator before you do this)-there are a lot of bolts and they are different lengths, so keep track of them so they go back in the same places.
I just ran across this and realized my answer was wrong-on the V8, the water pump is actually on the back of the engine, under a metal cover (driver side)- you need to remove the air cleaner, and move the ECM out of the way. Next, remove the valve in front of the cover, and remove the cover. You will see the housing bolts for the water pump, the pump itself in inside this housing, and you need a special tool to remove the pump. This tool is readily available at your local parts store for about $30. Might as well replace the thermostat while you are over there, since you are going to be in the general area. Whole job takes about 1-2 hours tops.
