1992 VW Polo 1.3L Coupe: On starting, dashboard console ignition/oil/battery warning lights initially behave as normal: all on, then battery goes off, then ignition/oil blink - but then instead of all going off as engine fires and is idling, what happens? Battery light goes off, oil goes off, ignition remains blinking and is soon joined by oil light blinking, then both stay on solid! All other lights off, engine fired and up idling fine. But oil and ignition lights on solid. Why? What can I do or check? Oil and water are both clean and at recommended levels. Battery holds full charge well, no problems there. Starting up is easy and quick. Car used every day. Problem not there last night, only appeared on trying to take car out this morning.
Polo Coupe 1043,1992, Will not start, can be bumped started, sometimes!!, theres a strange clicking noise from under the air box, when the ignition is on and sometimes the oil pressure light comes on when the car gets upto temperature, then I lose all power and then the engine cuts out. I've recently changed the dizzy cap, rotor arm and battery, all the leads are new ish along with the spark plugs. The previous owner has changed the head and done all that, leaving much of the engine loom unlagged and bare. Could this cause a problem on some of the electrical systems?
Bought a very reputable diy service manual for the vehicle, and that plus a bit of thought and nous gave me the cure: no intrinsic problem other than loose relay connections. Went round with the wiring diagrams as guide checking all electrical connections in tight and relays fuses etc all good. Switched on and no problem any more.
By the way, vehicle is 1992 VW Polo - not Fox (which in UK is a variant of the Polo)
