It is getting into your exhaust manifold-the return line is either restricted or blocked, or the oil seal inside the turbo housing is either leaking or blown, usually due to excessive crankcase pressure.Try disconnecting the oil feed and return lines first, clean them out, and try it again-if it is still there, the turbo will have to come out and it will have to be gone over for blown seals.

Misfiring cylinder 3 & 4

Sounds like a bad turbo to me. When you "kick it in", the engine falters and you get black smoke for a while. What is probably happening is that the turbo is leaking oil into the intake air stream, putting it into the cylinders with the fuel/air mix and causing one of two issues. Either the oil is inhibiting the combustion process, causing the falter and the resulting poor ignition, plus the oil, is giving black smoke, OR, the oil in the cylinders is fouling the plug momentarily, resulting in the fuel/oil being passed into the exhaust stream, burned in the catalytic converter and exits as black smoke. If it runs OK except when under turbo load, have that thing checked out ASAP. And, as far as the light staying on, most faults will set permanently after they occur three or more times within a certain period of time. This is ti ensure that intermittent faults won't cause false setting of the light.

My 2005 PT cruiser turbo has just started heavy white smoke when idling. Does not happen all the time and appears to run rough when it does

Hi Barbra:
1) I'd be suspicious of a bad head gasket with a possible leak between a cylinder and the water jacket.
If fumes smell like coolant that would be a confirming hint.
Check the oil (dipstick) and see if it has a milky colour or if there is any water visible. If the head gasket problem is only as in 1) above, it should be just oil.
- Temporary fix attempt????? - add aluminum sealant to coolant.
- Permanaent fix (expensive) - Off to the repair shop for a new head gasket.
Hope this helps.

Will oil come to air seprator if there is any problem in turbo

If there is a problem in a turbo that allows oil to the air intake or exhaust then it will show as smoke out of the exhaust and a constant requirement to top up the engine oil level.. Oil in the intake manifold may be from the PCV valve and excessive blow by .

Loud humming noise coming from 03. Pt cruiser with turbo. You can only hear the sound when excelerating. When hooked up to the computer at the parts store it says something about the emissions. Any...

It appears that the bearing and seal on the turbine shaft of the Turbo have failed causing the noise of a worn bearing and oil leaking past the seal into the exhaust system. Continuing to drive it will eventually remove all oil from engine if not topped up. The Turbo needs repairing urgently before any more damage occurs.
Turbos get very hot during brisk driving and need to be allowed to cool down before turning off the engine to prolong bearing and seal life. It is recommended to allow engine to idle for at least three minutes before switching off to allow the circulating oil to bring turbo down to a reasonable temperature.
