There is a hole in the camshaft gear turn the gear until it lines up with a mark in the cylinder head at the top. then line the crankshaft gear mark up with the mark on the block. sometimes the best way to see the camshaft timing mark is with a mirror.

the toyota camry engine designation is a 5S-FE

Bown head gasket Toyota 3vzfe motor

not the 3S-FE?
the caps are marked, 1 to max. 1 is front or cyl 1.
did you see all the warnings and pit falls for this head.?
int he FSM> its a full page of warnings
did you use RTV on cap 1? (so the oil gallery seals?)
login to alldata.com if no FSM.
and read the head pull page.
and make sure cam it timed, and lash checked,
then check for top end oiling at first crank,, or FAIL big time.
the caps are precision milled, in place, there is NO MIXING allowed.
just like rod big end caps, same deal.
and direction.
the cam must be sequenced in place or it will be wrecked.
RTM
read the manual;,
its no stove bolt six, not in the least.

I am leaking oil on the engine side closes to the firewall can see it or find it

You don't say what engine, but I'd assume a 4-cyl. It is almost certainly the cam cover gasket seal leaking, which is so common it is a Camry standard. This is true also of the 6-cyl. When replacing it I'd recommend genuine Toyota parts, since the generic parts don't last.

I need how much torque the head bolts for toyota camry 1996

It is 36 ft-lb, but done in two stages to a prescribed sequence. The bolts should be oiled. See here p67

This is for the 4-cyl. The V6 is 40 ft-lb, and the link is .....eg2.pdf.

Need to change out the camshaft sensor on a 2005 camry. Where is it.

Since the cam sensor reads the cam position, depending on if you have a 4 cyl or a V6 engine, the sensor should be on one end of the cylinder head.

Why would my 1996 camry leak & overheat?

There is a coolant leak somewhere. Youll need to press test coolant sys to find it.Did you drive long when it overheated? The cyl heads will
be damaged if drivin when overheating so hopefuly you didnt.

Trying to figure out where my oil leak is on my 1996 camry dx. Had the valve cover gasket changed and still leaking. What's puzzling is a small amount of oil on the back passenger side of the motor just...

Sounds like a slight leak on the cylinder head gasket or timing gear seals. Remove the timing cover plate to give you a better view of the problem. If its something like the heads, then get a professional to do it. If its in the timing section, you can do it yourself with the help of a Hanes or Chiltons manual for your car. Check the oil pan. That one is common on camrys.
