1998 Chevy S10 pickup backup lights don't work

The backup lights on my 1998 Chevy S10 won't come on when it's shifted to reverse. Lights and fuse are OK. Is it the switch on the transmission? How can I fix this?

Yes it screws in on right side of tramission and you will need a 7/8 inch deep socket to remove it. You may be able to clean the old one once it is removed. There is a little ball thatgets dirty and may you can get by with cleaning it. Good Luck. Ed

Had a trailer hitch installed and when put into reverse it would blow my back up light fuse. I then cut the female receptical out of the circiut and I don't have any back-up lights. Did they wire into my harness wrong to cause a short and if they did how can I find it?

Why don't my 1998 s10 backup lights work when car is in reverse, stop and tail lights work fine all bulbs and fuses seem to be good ?

if the backup bulbs are good then check the neutral switch as this is where the reverse switch is, its part of the neutral switch. it may have stopped working and need replacing. you will be replacing the neutral switch. if you have power out of the switch then check for power and ground at the light socket as there could be a bad wire or connection.

Both tail lights are out brake and turn bulbs work. My fuses and switch is good but i have no juice to my tail lights

Check if your vehicle uses a backup/reverse/safety switch in the transmittion, this is the most common problem after fuses in vehicles with that type of switch - Jeep Grand Cherokee owner

Turn Signal Problems

Usually when they flash very fast it means a bulb is bad, but if no reverse lights either it might be a short in the wires.

I bought a boat and trailer and there is no cord to hook up the trailer lights. i have a 1998 chevy s10 pickup extended cab.

your best bet is to get a harness from the parts store for your truck. cost is around $30.00 but well worth it. it connects into your harness and doesnt corrode and blow fuses while your trailer is in the water

Chevy S10 Pickup Starter. Removed the two bolts

Just changed a starter in a 94 S10 4x4. The only way to remove the starter was to take the passenger side exhaust manifold off and bring the starter out that way. Installation the same in reverse. Hope this helps. Don

Ack up lights dont work when put in reverse

If all fuses are intact and someone did not fiddle with the wiring or plugged out the back up switch, then its most probably the back up switch. Its fitted on the gearbox.

No tail lights

Try checking the headlight switch it may have broken contacts in it. Easy fix go to a salvage yard find same make and model truck, swap headlight switches.
