SHIFTER LOCKED IN PLACE

  1. Remove the instrument panel cover below the steering column, then remove the steering column shrouds to gain access to the brake transmission shift interlock (BTSI) solenoid. The solenoid is part of the interlock cable assembly.
  2. Disconnect the wire connector from the rear of the BTSI solenoid.
  3. Insert the ignition key and turn it to the ON position.
  4. With the brakes applied, try moving the shifter out of the PARK position.
    • If the lever now moves freely in and out of PARK, perform the Circuit Test below.
    • If the shift lever still does not move from the PARK position, remove the BTSI solenoid from the shift lever assembly. If the shift lever now moves freely in and out of the park position, the BTSI solenoid is faulty and the interlock cable must be replaced. If the shift lever still does not move from the park position, the problem is in the shift lever assembly or the ignition interlock cassette

I did the above suggestion from Shaffoti and true the spring was not connected as the pink "hidden" do hicky had a part broken off. I used a wire to attach the spring to the pink part then attached the other end where it goes. Put the key in and attempted to shift, noticed the silver wire in the shifter housing that is supposed to move when you depress the brake, wasn't moving (is it supposed to move?). and still couldn't shift... NOW the key won't come out of the ignition. AHHHH!
Anyone can help, I would appreciate it greatly! 3 hours of work for nada and have more problems than what I started with.

You have a problem with the shift interlock, some cars use an electric lock that is tied into the brake lights and some use a cable or rod connected to the shifter, check and make sure the brake lights are working. You should be able to by-pass the system by turning the ignition switch just far enough to un-lock the steering wheel, but not far enough to turn any thing on, then shift to neutral and start the car.

SOURCE: 2006 chrysler pacifica shifter wont go out of park shifter

This happened to me. And googleing the solution was very unproductive so I decided to take stuff apart and figure it out. I fixed it. Here's how. First, other forums told me that pressing on the brake releases a lever that allows you to shift from park, and that is true. Then I was told that the mechanism that releases that lever is broken and you can remove the gear shift trim, press on a pink lever to release the gear shift. That did NOT work and besides, when I pressed on the brake, I still heard the 'click' and that told me that the brake/release mechanism still functioned and that I should look elsewhere for the problem.

Here's what ultimately solved the problem. I had to remove the gear shift housing. In order to do that, I had to remove the center console. At first, it seemed like a daunting task but in the end, screw/fastener removal was logical and the parts went back together in a snap. Still, my wife saw the project mid-progress and got scared. No worries, happy ending. Anyway, once I removed the gear shift housing, I noticed another pink lever that was never mentioned in any of my google attempts. This other pink lever fits in a notch within the gear shift assembly and should be released as soon as you push the gear shift to the right on it's way down to the reverse position but only if the key is turn to the 'On' position. This lever is spring loaded. In my case, the little tiny plastic clip on the inside of the gear shift housing that holds a 10 cent spring (I'm guessing its 10 cents) was broken. That's it.

So my choices were to either by a new gear shift housing assembly for $300+ or use a dremmel tool to saw off the portion of the this pink lever that fits inside the aforementioned notch. I'm broke so I chose the later. 3 hours later, my 2006 Pacifica was mobile again. So what's the down side of sawing that piece off? Now it's possible to pull the key out of the ignition while the car is still running. If you can deal with that, you can save a lot of money. However, I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY IF HARM COMES TO YOU OR YOUR CAR BY PERFORMING THE SAME FIX AS I DID! But now you know.

SOURCE: The gear shift is stuck

Look under the dash, on the brake pedal arm. There are one or two switches that activate brake lights and/or shift unlock. Check for loose mounting nut or a missing rubber nubber. Is the brake pedal coming all the way back up? Look on the floor for something not usually found there. These switches are adjustable and it may be as simple as adjusting them. Have a helper look for brake lights on and shift lever unlocked while you push and release the switches with your finger. Depress the brake pedal to get it out of the way. Remember to set the park brake first. Could just be a bad switch or loose connector. Check fuses and the bulbs. Is shifter fully in Park? Also try jiggling the turn signal lever.

This problem also happened to me. However, I found the part online that replaces the second pink lever. The new part is made of metal so the part will never break again. I made the emergency fix with the dremel, ordered the part, and a week later the part came. I am making the permanent fix today. Follow the link above to order the new part. It costs around 49.00 including tax and shipping. It will take you appx 2 hours to remove the shifter, change the part, and reinstall.

2007 Chrysler Pacifica has reverse but no drive?

Question edited for clarity and correct spelling of model .
Question moved to model category.

some ideas here in the lower link, but the best way is to call a local auto electrician. A pro grade scan tool computer can diagnose in about 20 minutes. The computer can instruct shift solenoids to work and verify that they did.

I have a 2005 Chrysler Pacifica. It is making a grinding noise, and won't drive, reverse or stay in park. It was shifting gears perfectly before everything stopped working. Any idea?

Check the CV axles first. They can pop out and cause your noise and won't keep the vehicle from moving in park. Replace the axle/s if they did.

My 07 Pacifica will start but won't move out of park. Just clicks. Was told it may be the neutral safety switch?

No it's not the park neutral safety switch . It's the shift interlock system or what ever Chrysler calls it . It's a safety feature that won't let the transmission shift into gear unless you have your foot on the brake pedal .
What just clicks - explain ?

2006 Chrysler Pacifica won't go over 3000 rpm

When your driving or when in park?

If it wont go over in park this is normal. It is the rev limiter kicking in so that the engine will not self destruct.
