FIRST REMOVE SMALL AMOUNT OF BRAKE FLUID FROM THE BRAKE MASTERCYLINDER. THEN USE A LARGE C - CLAMP AND LEAVE THE OLD BRAKE PAD IN PLACE ON PISTON SIDE THEN COMPRESS THE PISTON IN CALIPER BORE. IF YOU SEE SIGNS OF BRAKE FLUID LEAKING AROUND PISTON SEAL.THE BRAKE CALIPER NEED REPLACING.WHEN YOU FINISH BRAKE JOB NEW BRAKE SHOES IN PLACE MAKE SURE BRAKE MASTERCYLINDER COVER BACK ON MASTERCYLINER THEN PUMP BRAKE PEDAL UNTIL NEW BRAKE PADS SEAT AGAINST BRAKE ROTOR.CHECK BRAKE FLUID LEVEL IN MASTERCYLINDER MAKE SURE ITS NOT LOW.
That would typically be the process- but in this case, the piston is not pushing back with the C clamp. Word on some other forums says something about a kit or a tool that rotates the piston as it is compressed. My guys at the parts store tell me that the piston should have slots if this tool is to work, but the pistons do not have slots- they are best described as hollow tubes, with a smooth outer edge.
Any idea about this tool, and how it may or may not work here?
YOUR TYPE OF BRAKE PISTON YOU CAN USE THE BRAKE TOOL OR YOU CAN USE NEEDLE NODE PLIERS ROTATE PISTON BACK IN THE BORE.MAKE SURE LOOK AT BRAKE PISTON SLOTS LINE SHOULD BE BE PERPENDICULAR TO A LINE DRAWN THROUGH THE CALIPER MOUNTING BOLT HOLES.
Many thanks for your help, btw, but.... No slots in the piston. Will try the needle nose pliers regardless.
