I bought a Chevy 350 , Block casting # 3970010 on rear pad, with Identification # V0408TDR - C8F438333 on the Front right pad. I actually helped pull this engine myself out of a 1976 Corvette, but, the owner could not asure me that it was it's original engine. Would gratefully appriciate identifing these numbers, or directing me to a place for same purpose. Thanks

Great Reading , but still leads me to not knowing what this engine originally came out of.

Go to www.nastyz28.com and i think you will find what your looking for. These blocks have a high nickel content which makes very strong. This will be a good motor to build horse power with.

I have tried to use the internet before to find out what TDR stands for without any success, I DO NOT HAVE A VIN NUMBER, therefore, what I was directed to , I have already read and found by myself. I do understand that with the VIN number I could find the info. myself. I DO NOT have such a number. I know all about the casting # 3970010 and the V0408 , it's the TDR that follows it, and C8F438333 stamped below it that I'm trying to find info. on. Thanks

That is just the casting number indicating it might be a 4-bolt main 350. You will need the stamped numbers on the block right in front of the passenger side head.

I have a SB Chevy engine that I got that was in a S10 now I need to now what the # mean 3970010 is the casting #

It's used on 69' 302 Z/28 4 bolt main
327 truck and industrial
350 from 1969 - 1980
The block can be either 2 or 4 bolt main.
You have to look at suffix letter in front of the block on the pass. side. Behind the alt. There two or three letters. That will tell you the history of the motor.

What year is this engine? and ci

From this chart - I think you may be misreading the number - 3970010 is possibly the actual number: Which makes the engine pretty old 68-72 350 V8 - 4 bolt main. I included past this number so that you can see that the number you posted doesn't actually exist. And thus my conclusion that the 9 is most likely a 0. Hope this helps. 3970010 350 69 Corvette late 69,4 bolt main 3970010 302 69 Camaro Z/28,Late 69, 4 bolt main 3970010 350 69-79 Truck 2&4 bolt main 3970010 350 69-79 Pass,Chevelle,Camaro,Nova,MonteCarlo 2&4 bolt main 3970010 350 70 Corvette 300,350,370 HP 4 bolt main 3970010 350 71 Corvette 270,330 HP 4 bolt main 3970010 350 72 Corvette 200,255 HP 4 bolt main 3970014 350 69-77 Pass,Chevelle,Camaro, Nova,MonteCarlo 2 or 4 bolt main 3970014 350 69-79 Truck 2 or 4 bolt main 3970014 350 72 Corvette late &undefined;72,200 HP,255HP 4 bolt main 3970020 307 68-73 Pass,Chevelle,Camro, Nova 3970020 307 69-73 Truck 3970024 307 69-73 Pass,Chevelle,Camro, Nova,Truck 3992386 327 68-69 Pass,Chevelle,Camro, Nova,Truck Large Jounal

Just wondering What my engine is out of. i bought it as a 350 Chev but not sure exactly if its a 350 or not. engine number KO314CMJ casting number 3970010

Hey spoofy, that is a good block casting...Chevy used that from 1969-1979. The Vette, Camaro, Chevelle, Nova, Monte Carlo and Trucks all had this engine. If it's a 4 bolt main, the chances it came out of a Vette are very good. The engine number you give does not cross reference.
I hope this helps.
