Why wont my 1999 New Beetle shift into overdrive ? All the other gears are smooth, Codes P0102,P0725,P1850,P1857, Only problem I have, is no overdrive?

thanks, but let me rephrase the situation, Which of the codes is responsible for no overdrive? I already researched the codes best I could, just can't find the association. By the way, the table doesn't show the P1850 & P1857 codes, the best I can figure out, they are both ECM related, 1850- the drivetrain missing signal from ECM, 1857- ECM or MAF failure? should I just replace both the engine Speed sensor( crank position sensor) and the MAF sensor?

My o2 volkswagon has codes p0725, p1850 and p1780. What do they mean?

There is a forum thread at the link. Check the powertrain fuses first. Then look over the pcm connector and harness. Apparently the guy on the thread finally replaced the pcm.

I have a 2000 vw beetle 2.0 gls and a error code of p0725 will this be the cause of my transmission not shifting now

Yes it could be, change out your crank positioning sensor, sounds like your trans is not getting the signal from your ECM

P0218 p0730 p0742

It's normal that won't shift into 3rd and overdrive because you have transmission code it's a default mode
P0730 Incorrect Gear Ratio
P0742 Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Stuck On
P0218 Transmission Over Temperature Condition
you need to solve those codes first

hope it helps

What's your problem?P0102

you have an issue with your mass airflow sensor, replace it and have the code reset, try overdrive once that is done.

OBDII codes

The other codes are related to the transmission control system. O would focus on getting the car started. I will guess you are getting no sparks. This could all be caused by a bad crankshaft position sensor.

I have a 1999 Tiburon. Trans starts off in 2nd gear and goes to 3rd but will not go into overdrive. When starting cold though, it will shift 1,2&3. Also overdrive(4th gear) light will not come on.

I would check into the Trans oil temp sensor, they are known to keep the trans from shifting into 4th gear if they have a open or a shorted circuit...This may also be the culprit for the other issues you are experiencing when the trans is at diff temps and doing diff things....The other thing that is known for going bad in that Transaxle is the Sunshell...The splines on the inside of the sunshell strip out and than you will lose pretty much all forward gears,Except for 1st gear most likely and you will also lose Reverse if the Sunshell goes bad...But this will not act any different if the temperature is cold or hot

2000 volkswagen beetle will not shift into overdrive but runs good in all other gears. It shifts smoothly but overdrive never engages

sounds like an electrical problem with the transmission ...these transmissions are fully electronic and the gears are engaged by servo valves these are controlled by the computer.... if there is any problem with the engine or a few other things it will be put into safe mode and it wont engage overdrive ..it may need to be scanned to see if any codes exist in the auto trans ecm..
