I have a 2002 Saturn Vue 3.0 v6. Have had problems with battery staying charged. Took car to auto parts store to have alternator checked, alternator was putting out 56 amps. Was told alternator was bad, should be at 125 amps. Ordered new alternator and installed it. Now, car starts fine but when you begin to accelerate the battery light and service light(one with wrench) flash on and car seems to lose power. Took car back to auto store and had alternator checked again, this time it was showing 60 amps. Also tried a new battery with same result. Did I get a bad alternator or is there some other problem that is causing this? Please Help!
I went through three alternators before we found a good one for our saturn sl2. Now she has been good for two years. All I did was go back to where we bought it from, they hooked up the alternator to a machine and gave us a new one when it read that it was faulty.
Bad alternators straight out of the box are not uncommon. Replace it again and hope you get a good one. Make them test it on the bench before taking it out of the store.
