You need 4,6 qts of 5W-20 motor oil. If I were you I'd start right now to use synthetic oil. If you decide to do it - go with "The First in Synthetics" and the best: Amsoil! 5W-20 XL motor oil gives you (guaranteed) protection for 7.500 miles. (Do not fall for warranty cancellations or similar dealership spam. Magnuson-Moss act prohibts cancellations based on brand). Read this: http://people.msoe.edu/~yoderw/oilfilterstudy/oilfilterstudy.html or this: http://www.lesabret.com/filters/filter.html and try to avoid Fram filters. It seems that any other filter is better than Fram. I'd recommend Amsoil, Wix, Carquest (made by Wix), Mobil...
Use a motorcraft filter. I would not use any Fram oil filters as I have cut one open and looked at it. The pleated paper had folded over on itself and was held together with a string. I have replaced a few of them for low oil pressure problems on other cars.. Use a motorcraft filter on this car or you may have lifter noise. Read your handbook. I use motorcraft 5w20 synth /blend . This is what was used since the car was new. When I check the oil its always full an looks like clean fresh oil even when its time for changing. 63000 miles.
You will need 5 quarts of SAE 30(don't use penzoil i use either valvoline or quakerstate) and the fram filter is PH9566 please rate the solution....thanks
This is covered in the Owner's Manual. Or at an auto parts store they have a chart for the oil filters and the counter person can tell you it is 5 quarts of 5w-20 and synthetic is best. Ford dealers use a synthetic blend.

Harold, According to the 2002 Ford Focus Owner manual,
With engine oil filter change : 2.0 liter SPI engine takes ( 3.78 liters / 4.0 U.S. quarts of 5W-20 )
2.0 liter Zetec engine takes ( 4.25 liters / 4.5 U.S. quarts of 5W-20 )
links below talk more about what they think oil should be used. "I hope this helped you out, if so let me know by pressing the helpful button. Check out some of my other posts if you need more tips and info."
For future reference every store that sells filter has a catalog to look this up, but here at the FRAM AND MOTORCRAFT O.E.M. PART NUMBERS. FRAM Part # PH3600 MOTORCRAFT Part # FL400S
If you change your own oil you may void your warranty. The dealer uses Chevron oil and an AC Delco oil filter. Fram is a good oil filter too and the delco you would have to get from the dealer. The fram oil filter part number is PH10060 and oil wise anything is good except Pennzoil. If you choose to run synthetic oil though dont go back to conventional oil.
what you may need is only a high mileage oil change only.you should be using a castrol [in cold weather only] 30weight oil. i suggest a fram oil filter. i also suggest you use lucas oil treatment in with the oil change. your vehicle holds a 5quart oil change right? use 4 quarts of castrol oil and 1 quart of lucas oil treatment in with it that leaves one quart out.add the fram oil filter. if you are a do it your selfer you know what i mean. if not, do this,do not go to wal-mart,or a quick oil change place. use a local garage that you can trust. buy your supplies in advance, at autozone or advance auto, nappa auto, or wherever you trust for the best buy.all you need to pay for is labor only for oil change but demand they use your supplies and watch them to insure they do! the oil change is regular, but the lucas will cost $10.00 more on top of the oil change.you can get a DEAL on fast track oil change, yeah right! do this once, and you will never use fast track again!you will get top engine lubrication which will remove that clatter. you will also gat 10.000 more miles between oil changes! you get what you pay for right? i have a 1994 ford explorer with over 400.000 miles on it now. just trying to see it i can go a million miles with it.i do my oil change every 45.000 miles. with no oil added in between oil changes.change your oil,use 30weight castrol oil in winter, use 40weight castrol in summer usea fram oil filter, the chatter will go away when you first start it. your engine will be lubricated well and you will be happy not hearing the chatter during the first start. thank you for choosing fixya.com we are always here!
Depending on what engine this is, you should drain oil, change filter, add 3.75 qts of oil, then start engine to check for leaks. Turn engine off, then check the oil fill on the dipstick. Add to proper amount generally at 4 or 4.25 qts.
Parts houses have a filter chart for determining the filter number. I believe that a #16 fram filter is used on yours but different "cross-over" numbers from other companies will also fit. Your vehicle capacity is four quarts with filter.
The oil capacity for a 2003 Cavalier with filter change is 4 quarts. In some cases the dipstick may read a little low, In that case then add 1 pint more.
The filter number is:
AC Delco: #PF47, (Original Equipment)
Fram: #PH3387A

you will need at least 5 or 6 qts. you can decide on the oil filter and the kind of oil to buy, they have valvoline, pennzoil, exxon, all kinds and the oil filter, they sell purolator, ac, fram,(fram is what i buy). if its got high miles, then use high milage oil.
