1999 durango 4x4 front differrential some how blows fluid out the vent line & all over the place.
The symptoms you describe appears to be Water contamination of the Diff. casing.
Take the vehicle for a run to the Auto store, and purchase 4x 1quart bottles of either 85/140 Heavy Duty gear Oil, or 75/90 Synthetic, whichever is currently in the system.
Come home and drain the diff. and the drive hubs when the oil is HOT/ WARM, until it stops dripping. Inspect the drain plug for metal debris, and feel inside the diff, with the little finger.[ don't get it stuck]. If everything is ok, refit the plug, remove the level plug and refill, until the oil just trickles out, then refit the plug.
On the hubs, rotate the wheel until the Drain/Level plug is facing down to empty. To refill to the correct level, face the D/L plug hole upwards, fill1/2 pint of similar oil as the diff, into the fill hole, and rotate the wheel 90 degrees, if no oil runs out, add oil sparingly, and repeat the process until it does. The Fr. and Rr diffs would normally be oil changed at the same time, including the 4wd, Transfer box.
Check your User Manual for the Total amount of oil that you will require to complete the project.
This should cure your problem.
Regards, David
Assuming that you need to go to the parts store for the oil, I would ask them to show you the schematic that reveals the location of the oil fill port. Also, they can tell you what is the best oil to use for that engine and climate. Make sure you change the filter too.
