A chevy uses Getrag? manual transmission.
yes
Borg-Warner T5, the Getrag, Muncie or New Venture models HM290, 5LM60 and NV3500 and the New Venture NV4500. The NV4500 appeared on 1992 full-sized trucks only

4x4 is lots of work, pulling the transfer case.
my guess is you did and UN-jammed forks and shift rails already.

top loader boxes are bliss. and is
the top must come off and most trucks have no huge floor pan plate to do that.
some guys gen one up from scratch.

SOURCE: '99 silverado 4x4,new trans,no gears.

I don't see you did anything wrong per your description.
With the engine off, check the level of the transmission oil, replace the dipstick, start the truck and recheck the fluid level, level should drop. This will indicate the front pump is working.

Next, with truck running, put transmission into any gear, then return to park position. Do you hear any ratcheting noise.

Let me know.

SOURCE: trying to replace rear turn signal light by

They are on a rail, after removing the screws it should slide towards you. Since it just wiggles, there are small plastic studs that keep it in place. I you need to pull it towards the front of the car or 90deg out from the front of the van.

SOURCE: How do I remove the dashboard from my 2000 Chevy Astro Van?

Paul is right you can go to radio shack or autozone schucks or any parts store and ask for the removal tool it cost $20.00 tops. Trust me you don't want to undo the dash as the air bag could detonate if you shorted the two wires that can control it and it could kill you.

Testimonial: "Thank you! I didn't even think about the safety aspect of removing the dash. Better leave this to the pros!"

I just rebuilt my 97 s10 getrag nv1500 trans. the shifting pattern is off and i have no rev or 5th gears.

On reviewing the manual, there are two cautions regarding installing the shift shaft that may be the source of your problem. One, the shaft must be installed with the detents at the front end of the shaft facing upwards. These detents are what the ball/spring seat into when the shaft moves forward/aft (like into 1st/2nd gear). The shaft can be installed 180 degrees out, but you would not feel the shifter 'lock' into gear.
The second caution seems more probable. When inserting the roll pin holding the shift shaft lever and bushing onto the shift shaft, the roll pin must be driven down flush with the surface of the shift shaft lever. If not driven flush, it can bind on or interfere with the movement of the bushing, possibly preventing the lever from being able to engage all of the three shift forks (3/4, 1/2, 5/rev). There are two roll pins used with the shift shaft. The shorter one (7/8") is used to secure the shift shaft lever/bushing and the longer one (1 1/4") to secure the shift socket in the rear.
Unfortunately, confirmation will require removal and partial disassembly (removal of the front case) to confirm.

On a 1991 dodge stealth 3.0 5 speed manual what is best transmission fluid to use and approx. how much?

GL4 or 75-90 weight gear oil....I use to use almost 3 quarts.. just keep filling inthe fill hole until it comes out and then force more in and put the bolt on it... better to slightly overfill gear oil boxes they do not foam like hydraulic fluid...Plus that Manual getrag tranny is discontinued when those aluminun housed trannys blow the case cracks... you will be onthe National PArts locater trying to find one they costs 500-800 bucks froma junkyard!!!!

How much gear oil does the 5 speed manual hold in a 95 full size truck?

Well for starters it is no longer gear oil.A 95 uses synthetic.I have a Getrag M5 95 C1500 5 speed and Think when fully drained it held about 2 1/2 quarts.I buy the trans fluid from GM dealer, not sure if Mobil 1 synthetic 80/90 would be the same. The fluid from the dealer is realy thin.Well hope this helps and good luck.

Cant find where to add trans fluid on 97 jetta 5 speed

A standard 5 speed does not have a dip-stick for the trans. You have to get it from underneath the car. There will be 2 fairly large plugs, one on the bottom of the trans and one about 1/4 of the way up the side. The bottom one is to drain it, the top one is to check/fill it. You remove the plug with a 1/2 inch drive rachet(no socket) The fluid should be able to be felt or maybe run out a little when you stick your finger into the hole. Make sure you use what ever the manufactorer recomends for fluid. Some standards use 90w gear oil, some use ATF fluid. If you use the wrong type, you can mess up your trans.

If your thinking that your needing fluid because the trans is slipping, you are wrong, you need to replace your clutch.

Clutch or tranny

Ok, Clutch engagement point should be midway or just before midway in relation to total travel.(pretty much the same in any clutch vehicle) assuming that if put in lets say 1st gear, with clutch in,then engine started, when clutch is released, car does not move but there are no unusual noises (grinding from inside trans.) If this is the case, I'd first check linkage for adjustment. If OK, remove the trans and look inside for broken gears, excessive metal debris etc.If shift rails are internal it could be that shift forks are sliding on rails and failing to engage synchros.
