Very common problem. The MOST LIKELY cause is that you have a front wheel speed sensor that is not working properly. This could be due to a bad front wheel bearing assembly or it could be a wiring problem. GM has had a LOT of problems with the wiring harnesses. A company named "DORMAN" makes a harness repair kit. (See picture below) The Dorman part number is: Part Number: 970-041 The wheel speed sensor itself and the wheel bearing come as a complete "HUB" assembly. The wheel bearing should be checked for looseness and the speed sensor should be tested at the speed sensor connector for AC voltage output when the wheel is spinning. If the bearing or the sensor is bad, then you must replace the hub assembly. If this is the case, I recommend using the "Timken" hub assemblies. They are more expensive, but are much better quality. I have had many problems using the cheaper brands. (See picture below) If the wheel bearing and sensor is OK, then the harness should be replaced. You will have to scan your Antilock Brake System (ABS) module to find out which one is causing the light to come on. As far as cost...it depends on exacltly WHAT it needs and WHO is doing the job. There also may be more than one speed sensor giving you problems. Your best bet is to get it diagnosed and get an estimate of repairs. If they try to sell you a hub assembly, ASK them if they actually TESTED the speed sensor. MOST mechanics out there will just throw a speed sensor (hub assembly) at the problem if they have a speed sensor code, only to find out later that the problem is in the harness. Of course, the customer is the one who ends up paying for their incompetence when this happens. my services traction light comes - dttech_36.jpg

{: ) The traction light is only an indicator or warning, it is just being erroneously triggered by the real problem which is the ABS. Fix first the ABS concern and the traction light will normalize as well. The ABS light tells there is something wrong with the antilock brake systems of your vehicle. It could be one of your wheel speed sensors. But to be sure which, it is recommended to have your vehicle scanned by a diagnostic scan tool to know exactly the components at fault.

First check to see if all the wheel speed sensors are reading. If one fails, it will deactivate several of these systems.

04 chevy impala trac cantrol active while starting of with wheels cut sharp to the left

Cou;d be a speed sensor/ABS. Cutting hard left or right is causing one wheel to move faster than the other. Slight variations will cause a traction light. Over time this will cause the ABS light to come on. I wouldn't worry about it right now. It would be hard to pinpoint the sensor that is going out. Just a note. When the ABS and Traction lights are on. All it does is revert your car back to the old system. Meaning that, your tires will lock up if you hit the brakes hard...

The ABS control Module is going bad, that all, since the ABS and traction work together you will get both lights on. Take to a mechanic, expect to spend about $500.

Abs light, trac light, service engine soon light 2001 Pontiac Grand Am

Sounds like you have a bad wheel speed sensor. You need to have it scanned. Since it's been sitting, it might just be a bad connection to one of the speed sensors.

2003 Chevy Impala Service Traction Sytem show on Dash

I can't answer the question about the gas fumes, but I had the same problem last year with the "Service Traction Sysytem" message and the Trac and ABS lights coming on in my Impala. Mine turned out to be because of a bad wheel bearing, that was causing the ABS and traction system not to work. I'm not sure if you've experienced this, but another thing that would happen with mine was that I would go to brake and have a hard time depressing the brake pedal, almost like it was pushing back. That is the point when the Trac and ABS lights came on.

hi Deborah.
this is all i could find out from the internet.
ABS and Trac OFF usually indicate a dirty or faulty ABS wheel sensor. You'll have to scan for the codes to see why the check engine light is on.
the abs and trac is the wheel speed sensor, you will probably have to replace the hub.
Have you already checked your owners manual for troubleshooting? If not, page 3-35 has the section about your "Trac Off" message.

"If there's a brakesystem problem that is specifically
related to tractioncontrol, the tractioncontrol
system will turn off and the warning light will come
on. If your brakes begin to overheat, the traction
controlsystem will turn off and the warning light will
come on until your brakes cool down...
If the tractioncontrolsystem warning light comes on
and stays on for an extended period of time when the
system is turned on, your vehicle needs service."

not sure if this helps you out but its all i could find out.
sorry if its of no help to you.

most of the time it is a wheel bearing going out you should have it scanned to be sure. If it is a bearing the scan will also tell you the witch side the bearing is out.

Service traction system message

Probably a bad ABS sensor is shutting down the traction control system.First you have to take it in to a reliable tech.He would scan the computer & check your ABS sensors.Im fairly certain one of thoe sensors are acting up.
