If you simply want to check the timing belt condition, then remove the plastic cover and visually inspect it. If you have the 5 sfe engine, the timing belt cover is a 2 piece assembly, upper and lower. if you have the 7 afe or 4 afe engine the timing cover is 3 pieces and to inspect the top of the timing belt you must remove the 4 nuts holding the valve cover down and the 2 bolts holding the wire loom. remove the whole valve cover. to inspect timing belt condition.

I believe my 2000 saturn ls1 timing belt is out. How do i get to it the easiest?

This car actually has a timing chain, not belt. The easiest way to take a look at it is to remove the valve cover. Then you can see the camshaft sprocket and chain.

Remove distributor cap, crank engine, see if distributor rotor turned, if it don't turn, bad timing belt, replace, if it does turn, more then likely, ignition control module, if timing belt bad. made br will help you to set in bad on timing, when replacing timing belt, hope this was very helpful.

Timing belt broke did it bend any valves

This engine has been identified as an interference engine in which the possibility of valve to piston damage in the event of timing belt failure is most likely to occur, when repairing I would also replace water pump, due to pump is timing belt driven. On an 2002 VW Jetta TDI 1.9L engine, VW recommends timing belt replacement every 80,000 miles.

I have a 98 dodge stratus. timing belt broke, was replaced. the engine runs perfect at RPMs higher than idle, but at idle whole engine and car shake. . . . why???

This car has a very possible chance of having either a slightly bent valve, causing the loping idle, or the belt was installed a tooth off on the timing, it's one of the two.easiest way to deduce this would be to recheck the timing belt marks, to certify they're correct, then to do a simple compression check, get back to me with any questions, I'M HERE TO HELP!!!

2002 Mazda Protege timing belt replaced and

Scan PCM for codes. Check that timing is correct again. These DOHC engines are easy to install a tooth out. Start from the top of engine when installing timing belt on this type of engine it's the easiest way to do it. If you took CRANKSHAFT pulley apart make sure the pick up ring behind isn't placed in backwards.

Timing belt?

When was the last time it was changed? Easiest way to check is open the hood, find the belt (when the car is off) look at the belt, do you see lots of cracking and strain on it? If so then it's probably time to change it, otherwise if there's none or not much at all, then it's fine.

Timing belt stipped

About the easiest way, is to put all belts back on properly, and turn engine over before complete re-assembly and check for compression.
I'm not able at this time to confirm that the 1.8L is, or isn't an interference engine, but regardless, you need to do this to see if any damage occurred anyway. Double check your oil pump sprocket & silent shaft timing. It can be 180 degrees out & still run, but engine may have a vibration when running.

My 92 pontiac sunbird won't start. It gets fual and has fire

Easiest way to check a timing belt without looking too hard: Does the engine spin over faster than normal with little or no compression? If so, belt has gone away. Dont guess when replacing it. Get a manual!!!

4g63 engine won't fire up after over revving it. 'B' timing belt brock and has been replaced along with the 'A' timing belt and the water pump. All the timing marks line up as recomended and do so after...

you should check the compression. its the easiest way to make sure you didn't bend valves. alot of times when the 'B' belt breaks, it gets sandwiched between the 'A' belt and crank sprocket, causing it to jump time.
