Radio and cigarette lighter

My sister plugged a defective cell phone charger into the cigarette lighter of my 92 Mazda Miata. After that, the radio and the cigarette lighter(that I would like to plug my own working charger into) would not work.I checked the fuse "box", but could not identify which fuse protects the radio and cigarette lighter part of the circuitry. I don't have an owner's manual and the two parts stores that I went to in town could not help me locate the correct fuse. How is the fuse that I am looking for labeled? ..or how do I identify the culprit fuse? Thanks, DAVE

You can pull the fuses one at a time and look at them. You will know the bad fuse when you see it.

Mechanic used the special device and all the fuses went on, showed the light on the divice. Still we could not work it out which one was the lighter and the description on the box had no fuse number indicating lighter or cigar!

2000 Mazda Protege lx. A phone charger tip broke, blew the fuse(s) for cigarette lighter, radio, and interior light. I checked and replaced mini fuse's in both interior and engine fuse boxes. Problem not...

There is an alternate problem with the wiring in the cigarette lighter where the wire melts and breaks. If you pull out the cigarette lighter assembly you will see a place where one wire splits into two. Find the damage point and replace the wire with a thicker one.

Why did my radio and my cig. lighter stopped working?

I wish I had a dollar for every time I have heard "All fuses are OK" or "I already checked the fuse" or "I know it's not the fuse"....I'd be a rich man!

When cigarette lighters quit working, 99% of the time the fuse is blown because someting got plugged into it like a defective phone charger. The other 1% of the time, it is because the lighter element is burned out or somebody essed with the wires to the cigarette lighter trying to install some kind of aftermarket equipment.

Humor me and check Fuse #9 (20 Amp) in the passenger side fuse and relay box.

Hi, I have 96 mazda miata, it seems cigarette lighter not working, checked the fuse compartment under the dash board and fuse was good. what can i do next? please, thanks.

The lighter itself could have gone bad. The actual cigarette lighter part go bad if they are used frequently. The socket part are less likely to bad but they do on occasion. If you have a car charger for your cell phone or something of that nature you can find out if its the receptical or the lighter itself.

I plugged a cell phone charger into my cigarette lighter in my 1991 chevy silverado and now my cigarette lighter, stereo, cargo light, and dome light will not work can you help me figure this out?

You blew the CIG,RADIO or ACC fuse in the fuse panel, remove and replace with same rated fuse. There is a grounding issue inside the lighter housing from this

Is the cigarette lighter also the plug for cell phone charger?

The cigarette lighter plug should also work for the phone charger as long as the phone charger uses the cigarette lighter style plug(long with two metal contacts on the sides and a button contact on the tip). Most standard car chargers will fit both cigarette and auxillary style plugs.

Radio does not turn on. the clock shows, the light

The memory wire of the radio,(the power for the clock and channel settings) is usually connected to the same circuit as the cigarette lighter. (there is a seperate fuse for radio) Check your cigarette lighter socket for damage or dirt, etc. could be causing the memory fuse to blow. Also check your cig lighter accesories (like cell phone chargers, etc.)

P.S. The backlight is also a seperate circuit (connected to interior light/parking light circuit)

Cigarette lighter sockets no power

Cell phone chargers commonly blow the fuses at the power points. It seems that our charger adaptors do not match the socket properly, and the positive part of the charger hits the negative of the socket, resulting in a blown fuse. If you have a charger, and it works, leave it in the socket. Don't take it with you. Repeated insertions of the adaptor to the socket magnifies this issue.
