Lexus- How to Change your Spark Plugs

Tools Required or used to assist
:

-1/4" ratchet
-1/2" ratchet
-Long extension
-Short extension
-3/4" (I believe, the normal sized one, not the huge one) spark plug socket
-Needle Nose pliers
-Flat head screw driver
-Adjustable pliers
-8mm socket
-10mm socket
-12mm socket
-#5 Hex Wrench
-12mm wrench with closed end on one side
-Spark plug gap tool with wire gap checker
-Flashlight

1. Buy replacement spark plugs. I bought Bosch Platinum+2 plugs for about $4/apiece from an online parts store, but from what I've read, the Platinum+4 are much better. They provide much more complete ignition and offer a noticeable improvement in mileage. One anecdote I heard was a friend of a friend who went from 20mpg to 24mpg on his BMW 3-series. The platinum+4 are only $1 more, so the possible performance improvement is well worth it.

2. Get your tools.

3. Remove the engine vanity cover by removing the three bolts near the base (front) of the engine. You'll need a hex wrench to get these out. See the picture below for location. Once the screws are out, rotate the Lexus logo 90 degrees and the cover should come off pretty easily.

4. Practice removing one of the easier spark plugs in the front.

5. First, disconnect the electrical connector from the spark plug tube head by pressing the end with your thumb and using a flat-head screwdriver to pry the connector off. Remove the spark plug tube screw using a socket wrench or equivalent. The tube should now slide out. See the picture below for reference. That was practice, now put it back in and replace the screw holding it in place.

6. Clean the area around each spark plug tube using a hand towel, pressurized air canister, or both. This includes the spark plugs behind the intake manifold. This will be tough because you will have to work by hand, but it is important.

7. Start by removing the most difficult spark plugs - in this case, the back ones. It is better to do the easy ones last, in case - for some reason - you give up or can't get the back plugs out. The back plugs are located behind the intake manifold (see picture below). You'll have to get to them through the opening indicated by the '''blue arrow. You can make this more accessible by removing what I think is the cruise control bracket. Loosen the nut indicated by the '''yellow arrow and remove the bolt indicated by the '''red arrow. Warning: these might be very tight.'''''''''

8. Repeat step 5 starting with the rear right spark plug (rear right when facing the front of the car), followed by the rear center, then rear left. When removing the spark plug, be sure not to let any dirt or debris fall into the engine. It could cause sever damage. The best thing to do is to remove the old spark plug, briefly inspect it, and immediately begin installing the new spark plug.

how do u tune up satrun l300 2002 how do i get to the plug and wire

this is a hard car to change them on unfortunetly but here is a guide to help you do it.
Tools required:

1 Crescent Wrench 1 "5/8 Spark Plug Socket 1 "3/8 Drive Ratchet 1 "3/8 Drive Extension 1 "1/4 Drive Ratchet 1 Pair of Small Channel Lock Pliers 1 Inverted Torx Socket Set
Even if you do not own any tools at most you should spend about $75 for the tools required to do this task.

Looking down at the engine you will see the two intake manifold runners and four boots for each one. Each boot has two clamps. The easiest way to take them off was to use a pair of small channel lock pliers to squeeze the clamp enough to unlatch the clip. they make a special tool for this, But its not really worth the money.

The front manifold is a little easier than the rear one. there are only three bolts that need to be unbolted and the manifold should slide off.

Now there are two bolts that need to be removed and the coil packs can be slid out.

The front spark plugs are now exposed and can be changed.

The rear is a little more tricky because there is more that needs to be removed off of the manifold. The PCM can either be unbolted or unplugged. Whichever method you choose you may be required to use the re-learn technique for the pass-key system. There are two vacuum hoses that go to a black box that need to be removed. There is a brass fitting that is holding a larger vacuum hose onto the manifold. There is a sensor that needs to be unplugged on the right side of the manifold. there are four bolts that hold the manifold down. there are 4 total and two are in the back of the manifold.

Now you should be ready to pull off the manifold. Make sure there are no more harnesses or sensors attached to the back of the manifold. It looks like there is one or 2 from the manual. Pull the manifold off and you will expose the coil pack. Unbolt it just like you did the front and pull the coil packs off to expose the rear spark plugs. Change your spark plugs and put everything back
If you require further assistance please feel free to let me know and i will be glad to assist you further. Thanks, Midwest-tek

how do i change the spark plugs on 2003 kia sedona van

Hey bobnatboys,
The back 3 spark plugs are a pain to get to.
But I have 2 methods, which perhaps you can put 2 an 2 together to make it easier for yourself.
firstly make sure you buy new ignition leads because they can break when removing them from the spark plugs. The front (cylinders 1, 3, 5) are easy to get to with 3/8" drive sparl plug socket, an extension bar and ratchet. As for the back 3, put the vehicle up on stands at the front, grab the spark plug socket, a short extension bar and the rachet, crawl underneath the front of the car on your back and start swearing. 2 hands are required. First off, remove the plug leads by a small twist then pull. This is where the plug lead might break. Once the ignition leads are out of the way (yes, even though they seem to come up hard against the firewall - by manipulating them they can be removed), drop the plug socket down the hole onto the spark plug, feed the short extension bar into the hole and click it onto the socket, then feed the ratchet up to the extension bar (2 hands) and proceed to loosen/undo the spark plug. If you don't have the socket with the rubber piece in the end of it - to grip onto the plug, then you will need a thin magnet to drag them out with. Reverse the process for installation.
Now the second option is remove the inlet manifold, its an easy procedure, and no need to hoist the car, just remember once the inlet manifold is off, block the holes to prevent things from falling in.

how to change spark plugs on 2005 acura tl

Hi,

you need a 6 inch extension, short 3/8 ratchet, 5/8 plug socket, 3/8 swivel "u" joint, (sold at sears) 8mm 1/4 drive socket deep well and 1/4 inch ratchet.

find the coil packs (6 total, three in each head.)
remove the two retaining nuts holding each coil pack using 1/4 8mm socket and ratchet.
twist the pack to break the sticking boot below.
pull up (be careful to not rip the boots however it may still happen but rare.)
remove coil packs, the rear is a little more difficult with the intake.
use 6" extension and u joint and ratchet to remove plugs and replace.
reverse order to assemble. Good luck, and hoped this helped.
