The rear suspension on LH platform vehicles is a fully independent suspension. A stabilizer bar (also called a sway bar) is mounted in rubber isolator bushings and connects the rear struts through links. Note that the fuel tank must be removed to remove the stabilizer bar.
CAUTION
OFF. The fuel system pressure must be relieved before disconnecting any fuel lines. Failure to do so may result in fire and/or personal injury.
Disconnect the negative battery cable. Relieve the fuel system pressure.
Raise and safely support the vehicle.
Remove both rear wheels.
Position a transmission jack under the fuel tank just forward of the crossmember to help support the fuel tank when crossmember is removed.
Remove the four crossmember to frame rail attaching bolts. Remove the fuel tank.
Remove the stabilizer bar to link assembly attaching nuts and remove the bar and isolator bushings as an assembly from the vehicle. Inspect the isolator bushings for damage or excessive wear and replace, if necessary.
To install:
Inspect for broken or distorted retainers and bushings. If bushing replacement is required, replacement bushings can be installed by locating the split in the bushing, prying open and removing the defective bushing from around the stabilizer bar.
Install the stabilizer bar and isolator bushings back into the vehicle as an assembly making sure bar is centered in vehicle so it doesn't contact other suspension components.
Install stabilizer bar attaching link onto stabilizer bar. Install new link to bar attaching nuts and tighten to 70 ft. lbs. (95 Nm).
Replace the sway bar bracket bolt with new after loosening or removing them. Only use original equipment bolts as replacements.
Install the fuel tank back onto the vehicle.
Position the crossmember on frame rails and install four mounting bolts. Tighten attaching bolts to 70 ft. lbs. (95 Nm).
Remove transmission jack from under the fuel tank.
Install the rear wheels and lug nuts. Tighten the lug nuts, in a star pattern sequence, to 95-100 ft. lbs. (129-135 Nm).
Lower the vehicle. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
Pressurize the fuel system and check for leaks.
Check and reset the rear wheel toe to specifications as required.
You mean the sway bar? If so, the sway bar or roll bar, or sometimes called the stabilizer bar. The sway bar has two functions.
To prevent body roll or lean in a turn.
It is used to control the handling of the vehicle and is tuned to your specific vehicle based on many characteristics.
You most definitely need to replace the broken sway bar. A vehicle with a broken sway bar is not a safe vehicle. The handling is not what it should be and this can be dangerous if you have to make a quick maneuver. Replace it, ASAP.

REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
Stabilizer Bar
Removal
Raise vehicle on a hoist. Refer to Section 00-02 .
Support vehicle with hoist or safety stands behind front sub-frame (5C145).
CAUTION: Use extreme care not to damage boot seal. Do not use power tools to tighten nut, or bearing and seal damage will result. Install nut using hex hold feature to prevent the stud from rotating.
Remove and discard nuts retaining stabilizer bar link (5K484) assembly to front stabilizer bar (5482) and front shock absorber (18124) with an 8 mm closed-end wrench and an 18 mm open-end wrench.
Remove nuts retaining steering gear (3504) to front sub-frame, and move steering gear off the front sub-frame.
With another set of support safety stands under front sub-frame, remove two rear subframe retaining bolts. Lower rear of the front sub-frame to obtain access to stabilizer bar brackets (5486).
Remove front stabilizer bar U-bracket bolts and replacestabilizer bar brackets and/or front stabilizer bar as required. Discard lower suspension arm stabilizer bar insulator (5493) and bolts.
Installation
Clean front stabilizer bar to remove dirt and contamination in area of stabilizer bar insulator installation position.
Lubricate inside diameter of new lower suspension arm stabilizer bar insulator with Rubber Suspension Insulator Lube E25Y-19553-A or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESF-M99B112-A. Do not use any mineral or petroleum based lubricants as they will deteriorate the rubber lower suspension arm stabilizer bar insulators.
Install new lower suspension arm stabilizer bar insulators onto front stabilizer bar and position them in approximate location.
Install stabilizer bar bracket on front sub-frames and install new bolts. Tighten to 30-40 Nm (22-29 lb-ft).
Raise front sub-frame and install new front sub-frame-to-body retaining bolts. Position steering gear onto front sub-frame and install retaining nuts. Tighten to 115-135 Nm (85-99 lb-ft).
CAUTION: Use extreme care not to damage boot seal. Do not use power tools to tighten nut, or bearing and seal damage will result. Install nut using hex hold feature to prevent the stud from rotating.
Install stabilizer bar link to front shock absorber and to front stabilizer bar, making sure that the stabilizer bar link is properly positioned. The letters "Top LH" and "Top RH" are moulded into the stabilizer bar link for correct assembly to the front shock absorber strut.
Install new nuts and secure stabilizer bar link assembly to front stabilizer bar and front shock absorber. Tighten to 77-103 Nm (57-75 lb-ft) at front shock absorber strut and 47-63 Nm (35-46 lb-ft) at front stabilizer bar.
Howdy, sway bar/stabilizer. disconnect neg battery cable, disable air bag (if equipped, it was an option in 91), jack up vehicle, support w/ safety stands, remove front wheels, disconnect sway bar ends from the lower control arms, remove bolts retaining sway bar bushing brackets.remove sway bar. Check bushings for splits and deformation, clean inner and outer surfaces of bushings before installation, Make sure bushings are properly seated in their brackets. Tighten brackets to 12 ft lbs, and end mounts or link bolts to 16 ft lbs. Let me know how u make out countrycurt0
