Tip & How-To about Nissan Altima

Tips for your 2005 Nissan Altima 2.5 crank shaft sensor

If your 2005 Nissan Altima is sputtering or seems to stall in mid drive at speeds of 55-70 mph or just shuts down at low speeds or idle this may be due to your crank shaft sensor.
The crank shaft sensors were originally made of plastic and were later "upgraded" to a metal sensor.
To change you will need a 10 mm Hex socket wrench, a long flat head screw driver, and if you have access I would recommend a lift.
To access the sensor you will be under the vehicle and you will see a guard plate over the exhaust, remove this so you can have some arm room to reach up behind the engine. reaching up with your right arm you should begin "blindly" feeling for the sensor which by looking at the new one you can be able to tell what it feels like. There will be the connector you need to detatch be careful not to break it. Once you locate it use the wrench to remove the bolts and the flat head to help wedge it out. Once the sensor is out you
Once you remove the old sensor the new one will be a tight fit but it does fit, be sure to attach the sensor cords before putting the new sensor back in. but once you have it attached take a little oil and lubricate the sensor to help it slide back in, reattach the bolts and now your done.

car jerks on freeway and engine shuts off.

It sounds like your Mass Air Flow Sensor is faulty. These sensors will normal show fault when cruising at highway speeds causing the vehicle to almost stall or stall. Replace the Mass Air Flow Sensor with a known good one and test drive the vehicle. This will most likely repair your concern.

No....the rpms differ from engine to engine and from manufacturer to manufacturer. RPM's are always higher at higher speeds.
