Tip & How-To about Chevrolet 1500
We all have experienced a mystery noise coming from our engine at one time or another. Yet when we open the hood and listen for it, it becomes impossible to locate. Here is a quick and easy way to identify noises from your engine. All you need is a 12" or larger 3/8 drive extension. Basically a long extension for a ratchet. Don't have one? That's okay, just find a solid metal rod the same size. With the engine running, hood opened and emergency brake on place one end of the tool on these areas of the engine: - Alternator, a/c compressor, power steering pump, water pump, valve cover.....and so on and place the other end to your ear. Whatever noise your hearing will be clear and amplified without the distraction of every other sound the engine makes. Only do this if you feel comfortable and be aware of what is around the area you are testing. DO NOT TOUCH ELECTRICAL CONTACTS OR ANY MOVING PARTS. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT AND ALWAYS HAVE SOMEONE ELSE WITH YOU TO MONITOR AND HELP IF NEEDED.
