Tip & How-To about Ford Explorer

Car wont start replaced alternator

I would say if you changed your alternator then you still have the same problems. Start your vehicle and pull your positive cable off your batter this will test to see if your car will run on your alternator. Since you just replaced it then it should stay running. Ok next turn off the car and take your battery out and get it tested more times than any your battery is just so dead it cant keep a charge.

If you leave the truck sit for about two days the battery goes dead. The batter test good according to a load test. Unhooking the starter and alternator from the system you can take a test light and see that the positive battery cable for the truck is going to ground, which is why the batter is dead. The problem is I don't know what is going to ground. The truck is a 2001 silverado.

If the POSITIVE battery cable is going to ground you will be seeing lots of smoke and fire. Your truck will be burning and you will need to call the fire department, not a mechanic. Take your vehicle to a qualified service technician and have it tested for an "Ignition Off Draw."

2003 Pathfinder LE AT Oil Brake and battery light flicker

.I spent a lot of time and head scratching over the exact same problem ...YOU NEED A NEW REGULATOR (it is in the alternator).repair options are ;replace voltage regulator only , rebuild complete alternator , replace alternator with a rebuilt one , or replace alternator with a new one
The clue was getting diff. readings on your volt meter ....mine would spike up to 18 volts but you have to put your volt meter on and get yourself a cup of coffee (or a beer) and stare at your meter for atleast 15 minuits after the engine is heated up ....
