DIY Replacement Ignition KeySubject: DIY Replacement Ignition Key Title: What to do if you need a replacement ignition key Overview: There are times where you may need a replacement key. This can be the cause of a lost key, a key going bad, upgrading from the non all-in-one key to the all-in-one key. Please keep in mind that if all keys are lost, there is NO WAY to program a new key to you car and a replacement TWICE module will have to be found with a key, either new (costly) or used and be married to the car via the dealer. Symptoms: Need a key, key is giving intermittent "bad key" messages and will not start the car, etc. Experience Level: Easy Tools Needed: Probably none, or a small tool to take the door off of a key via the hole in the side for the all-in-one key. Time Needed: Not much. Parts Needed: Key Blank from Dealer about $40 This is cut to your car. Key Top from Dealer about $40 This is the "key guts" all-in-one guts from Dealer about $90 all-in-one guts from ebay about $30-$60 key door from dealer for all-in-one key about $15 Procedure: There are a few cases that can be covered Case 1: Non All-in-one key replaced by non All-In-One key. Subcase A: Have a non all-in-one key that is going bad Solution: The dealer will have a replacement top for the key. Get the top, replace the top of the key and have it reprogrammed for the car. Total cost about $40 + $30. Subcase B: Replace with all-in-one key because they are neato and / or the other key is lost. Solution: Order the "Key Blank" from dealer and obtain the guts for the all in one key from ebay or the dealer. Have keys programmed by dealer. Total cost about $35 + $30 + guts cost. Case 2: All-in-one key replaced by All-In-One key. Subcase A: Have key but is not working. Solution: Get guts and have it programmed. Cost about $30 + guts cost. Subcase B: Lost key, need a new key Solution: Get Key Blank and guts and have it programmed. Cost about $35 + $30 + guts cost. Outcome: Very nice. Replacing the non all-in-one with the all-in-one dramatically increased the range of the remote. over the banana style remote. Notes: - Replace the battery in the guts if you get them off of ebay. - You have to have all keys and remotes to dealer for programming. - The guts for the non all-in-one key do not have the remote guts - The guts for the all-in-one key have the security and remote in one - The key shaft from the ebay all-in-one key can be discarded
Two things u can do! Go to the dealer with the Reg and title they will cut u a key threw the vin. Second u can remove the door lock / key cylinder and take it to a lock smith !
Ignition lock cylinder or solenoid damaged. Either way this is a dealer only fix, because the cut codes for replacement lock cylinders and keys are confidential information and require a government issued ID matching the vehicle title.
