Tip & How-To about Mazda B2300
Symptoms: The engine cranks, but will not start.
Possible causes:No fuel, no ignition.
Usually, when you have no fuel, the remedy is bad fuel pump..replace it. I noticed that when I turned on the ignition switch, I did not hear the usual BUZZ of the fuel pump initializing. I did not want to remove the fuel tank and go through that mess at this time. So, I traced the fuel pump circuit (Chilton's manual) and discovered that there is a crash disconnect relay..which was ok, and a fuel pump relay. It is located in the engine compartment driver's side in a black long fuse box. A volt meter read power coming to the relay. I replaced the relay..$12.00 and the engine started up immediately. This also fixed my fuel gauge..it never read correctly when I filled up. Now it is functioning properly.
Bottom line: check the easy things first before dropping the gas tank.
