Intermitent wipers not working, all other postions work fine

Rain sensor on windshield below rear view mirror may be the cause. put a jumper wire across 2 center termals of the 4 wire connector (black and black/white wires) if system works now you could leave in the jumper. or get a new rain sensor, after you check and verify power at yellow wire with key on . hope this helped

How to identify infrared glass

very hard to tell for the untrained eye.but here goes, infrared is a solar film on the windshield (used mostly on high end bmw's). from the outside look at the perimeter of the windshield, the out side 2-3 inches, and see if you can see a difference in the glass. I know there is a black frit band around the edge, that's not it, but the infrared does not run into the black frit band and you can see the infrared end. also in the center by the rear view mirror is your rain sensor. a rain sensor cannot "see" through infrared therefore there is a missing patch or cut out for the rain sensor. again look for a difference in the glass (not the black frit band) I take it you are getting your windshield replaced. Infrared windshields are very expensive and not that common. You can replace a infrared with a regular windshield and vis versa no problem (just you won't have the infrared). stop in at your local glass shop and ask a tech to look and tell you if it is infrared. How to replace the electronic interior rear view mirrow on 2004 Envoy SLT. I have a new one to install and need to figure out how to remove the old one on the truck...

Hello lindleyjl,

1. You will need to disconnect the wire cove from the upper mirror base. (See image below)
2. Use a flat blade screw driver to disconnect the electrical connector from the mirror. Number 1 in the image.
3. Use a torx driver to loosen the set screw that holds the mirror base to the windshield button.

4. Slide the mirror upward off the the rear view mirror button; number 1 in the image below.

To install, reverse the above outlined procedure.

I hope this helps.

2004 Jeep rain sensing wipers continue to run regardless of setting or amount of rain

a couple of thoughts:
Has your windshield just been replaced?
The sensor is up by the rear view mirror, is it plugged in all the way?
Do you have the right size wiper blades on your vehicle? (too short of a blade misses the rain sensor and does not wipe it clean)
How good are your blades? ( as above, to turn off the rain sensor the blade needs to wipe it clean)
The rain sensor works by projecting multiple inferred beams to the inside of the windshield, like a prism, they reflect back to collectors. when there is a water droplet on the outside of the windshield it changes a beams trajectory and it misses the collector thust turning on the wipers.
(yes, this all happens in that little sensor up by the rear view mirror.)
check to make sure the wiper switch is in the right position.
also....I've seen rain sensors not work properly when the hood or doors are open.
hope this helps
