Tip & How-To about 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt

Check engine code ps502 speed sensor

It was causing speedometer and power steering failure. The car was drive able but I steered it holding with both hands as the steering felt a little weird. Normally this means the vehicle speed sensor, also called the speedometer sensor, has failed.

In my case it was easy to fix once I got under the car and blindly felt around for the speed sensor because it is hidden on the upper area of the differential housing. If it was the actual part failed I think It would have required service at a shop because for safety reasons I just would dare trying to change the sensor w/o the car being on a lift.

I had apparently the knocked connector loose as it was dangling under the steering knuckle around the rack. While under the car on my back but my head raised up , using my sense of touch and imagination I was able to reconnect the sensor.

After about 5 miles of driving the trouble cleared up and after about 30 more miles the check engine light went out.

i have swift vxi 2010 model . its steering has become heavy and speedometer gone dead. EPS light is on wat can be the problem

check all fuse in both fuse boxes.
power sensor?
electronic power steering failure.
you can:
1: get it fixed. (any ASE shop would be happy to help.)
2: read the FSM and learn the tests to find the cause.
3: and scan the PCM to see what EPS failures are happening,
and post those.
or look them up in the FSM to see the tests.

power steering failure

I would have the power steering system tested, it is a possible steering rack issue.

speedometer quits, loss of power steering

first of all, the power steering pump doesn't stop working and then start working usually they are just bad. second of all it shouldn't take 3 hrs to change speed sensor, and last the vss could cause all symptoms, if the car has variable assist steering the speed sensor could effect this

lossed power steering while driving

sounds like your relay under the bonnet has gone im fraid, not too hard to change. if this is not the cause then the problem might be a little more difficult to sort out as this will prob be the power steering motor and is a bit of a swine to change.
