Sounds like the car is going into limp mode which does not mean there is a tranny problem. Take it and have it hooked to a code reader, you will need to find a garage or something because the cheaper ones that are sold in your local automotive supply stores dont read the trans codes. Another option is to turn head lights on with the key NOT in the ignition and take the negative cable off the battery, then remove the positive cable, wait 10 to 15 minutes then turn head lughts OFF, recinnect the positive THEN the negative battery cables. This will reset the on board ECM.
This tends to be a Fuel cap seal, when getting fuel be sure to tighten the gas cap at least three clicks. Any parts store should be able to reset the service engine light, if the light persists, remove your negative battery cable for 30 seconds with the ignition turned to the run position. replace negative battery cable and and the code should be gone. This resets your cars computer. Be aware that this also rests the Drive Learn program, and the car will take 10-15 miles to reset this, it may run a bit rough during those 10-15 miles but should clear up afterwards.
disconect battery for 10/15 mins when done touch negative cable to positive battery terminal(while negative still un hooked)reinstall.some codes cannot be cleared with scanner,or still has problem so lite wont go out
