It over heats put a new ful pump in it but will not start
Check coolant level for the overheating issue. If level is ok, possible thermostat problem/possible rad fan problem/possible restriction in rad/possible head gasket. Why did you change the fuel pump? Is there power and ground to the fuel pump for it to operate? Have you checked for spark at the spark plugs?
Where is the tempature guage sensor
The temperature gauge sensor as you call is for more then just the temperature gauge . The temp. sensor is an input to the PCM -engine computer ! If it were bad you would have drivability problems , the transmission would not shift correctly an the check engine light would more then likely be lit .
Engine Coolant Temperature Gage
The IPC displays the engine coolant temperature as determined by the PCM. The body control module (BCM) receives a class 2 message from the PCM indicating the engine coolant temperature. The BCM converts the engine coolant temperature into a percent gage deflection. The IPC receives a message from the BCM via the serial peripheral interface (SPI) indicating the requested gage position. The engine coolant temperature gage defaults to 38?°C (100?°F) or below if:
?€¢
The PCM detects a malfunction in the engine coolant temperature sensor circuit.
?€¢
The BCM detects a loss of class 2 communications with the PCM.
?€¢
The IPC detects a loss of SPI communications with the BCM.
Your gauge is more suspect then the sensor . gm had a problem with stepper motors that control the pointer for the gauge !
Belt keeps comming off
THE PULLEYS MAY NOT BE IN LINE. OR YOU COULD HAVE A BELT THAT IS TO LONG AND YOU WOULD NOT HAVE ENOUGH TENSION.
Po171 2001 chevy malibu what could be the problem?
Possible causes
- Intake air leaks
- Faulty front heated oxygen sensor
- Ignition misfiring
- Faulty fuel injectors
- Exhaust gas leaks
- Incorrect fuel pressure
- Lack of fuel
- Faulty Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor
- Incorrect Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) hose connection
How to change thermostat in malibu 2001
Follow the radiator hose back to the engine on the top side. Where the hose connects to the engine is the thermostat housing. Remove the hose clamp and hose (when vehicle is cool). remove the housing itself and the thermostat will be right in front of you. Replace an put it back together. Fill up the radiator fluid again. After you start the motor for about 2 minutes check the fluid again and top off if needed.
Check engine light
The check engine light has many reasons for coming on! The only way of being sure is to get a code reading from garage or main dealer!
