2002 Toyota Avalon Questions & Answers
How do I replace the alternator belt on a 2002 avalon
I have included an image for reference. There is a tensioner included in the pulleys the belt travels around. (Red X). There is also a spring loaded lever point you use to release the tension on the belt.
Remove the covers to expose the belt. **Take a photo or draw the route the belt takes so you don't forget when putting the new one back on.**
Facing the belt and using a ring spanner or swan neck spanner, turn the adjuster clockwise, (green circle). **NOTE** There will be a lot of tension on the spring so take your time as it could slip and snap back into place, taking at least one knuckle with it. I always find a helper at this point makes the whole thing A LOT easier.
Once the adjuster is swung over the belt should slide off one of the pulleys and then off completely. Gently ease the adjuster back to it's rest position.
Replace as follows. Using your reference image and your helper, swing the adjuster clockwise as far as you can. Position the belt, making sure it is squarely positioned on each pulley. GENTLY ease the adjuster back off and recheck it is squarely set on all the pulleys.
At this point you can start the vehicle to check the belt in running correctly then after turning the engine OFF refit any covers over the belt.

Car won't start 2002 toyata ipsum nothing works apart from lights in side and head light's dash doesn't light up either ?? Any ideas
Start with the basics: Do you have all your fluids at normal levels? Does the engine turn over when you turn the key? Check the voltage on the car battery -- it should be between 12.8 - 14V without load, any lower and your battery may be too flat to start the car. That check engine light means the onboard computer does know something's up. Go get an OBD2 scanner and plug it in, read the code, and work from there.
If your engine is turning over, then the fuel isn't igniting for whatever reason. Check your battery, check your plugs, and check your fuel pump to make sure the engine is getting fuel.
How to find vaccum leak on toyoto avelon XL 2002
Most vacuum leaks are in hoses. You can visually inspect all of the small hoses under the hood, and see if cracks have appeared.
The other way is to take a spray bottle with brake fluid, and while the engine is running, spray those same hoses. When you hit the right one, smoke will come out of the tailpipe. I don't like this one, because brake fluid is also an excellent paint remover...
