Need step by step to change timing belt on 1996
Timing belt replacement is better done by a professional. If it is done incorrectly severe engine damage can result costing over $1000.00. I would discourage any but the most advanced do it yourselfer from changing the belt. If you must do this go to a local autoparts store and purchase a service manual for your vehicle. $25.00 well spent.
Hope this helps!

My brake light and a light that looks like a car
Your brake light is on because your brake fluid is probably low in the brake master cylinder. As the brakes wear, the fluid level drops proportionally. A switch in the brake master cyluinder measures the fluid level.
The //\\ light indicates you have a burnt out tail or brake lamp. All of the rear lamps are checked by a sensor, including the one in the rear window.

That is the code for a problem with the throtle position sensor . this may not be the problem with the car, but something is effecting the way the TPS is performing. (you could get a high low idle, rough idle)

A dash light comes on when i put the car in
you need to be more specific with what the actual light looks like.
If it looks like the back of your car with some dashes on either side of the car, then it means there's an issue with one of the taillight bulbs

I have a 1996 Toyota Avalon. When I tried to
try resetting the computer which involves unhooking the battery for about 15 minutes. if you have an anti-theft radio make sure you know the code and how to enter it.

The cruise control dash panel light flashes on and
Get a code reader. Your car is obd1 or obd2 you can buy them pretty cheap at your local auto parts store and it will tell you what is possibly wrong with your cruise control. Saves going and getting the codes read at a shop

1996 Avalon, P0135 O2 sensor, bank 1 sensor 2
The P0135 bank 1 sensor 1 is the one on the right exhaust manifold, between the engine & firewall, which is tough to get to. You will need the special slotted socket. The Bosch replacement is available at NAPA or Advance for about $190. I bought two for my 03 Avalon on Amazon.com for $110 each. p.s. DO NOT buy the version that you reuse the plug from the old sensor. Learned that the hard ($) way.
