HMM, it has been awhile since ive worked on that toyota motor. Check for vacuum leaks on hoses and the intake manifold. Check egr system for a dirty pintle leaving the egr stuck open. It will cause bad acceleration and idle quality. A properly closed egr cannot be blown through to the opposite port. Check for a clean throttle plate, if it is not, clean it. If it is a fuel injected engine check for bad fuel injector o rings for wear, if they leak they cause fuel burning and idle problems.

Sounds like a short somewhere, could be a frayed wire.

Take it to your mechanic and have it checked for a partialy clogged catalytic converter.

Fuse? Is it getting power? Corrosion? Frozen pump? Bad motor? Check out these areas for issue.

On an 1986 with 22RE engine it is locate in the engine compartment, on the side bulkhead, above the passenger wheel well. It's a small rectangular sliver box-like shape.

no --- the revolutions of the cam shaft is set to half the numbers of the crank shaft so that means that you will have to turn the crank 2 full turns to get the links to line up again

check that you have the firing order and are not 180 degrees out

Take the dash apart like you are removing the stereo. Then the black bezel in front. 3 screws on the top recessed into the bezel in front of the instrument cluster. 2 behind the air conditioner/heater panel and it should slide out. 4 more screws holding the instrument cluster in place.

Water pump is timing belt driven. Change your timing belt too. Drain the coolant/antifreeze and everything on the front of the motor has to come off. Make sure you have the timing marks lined up
